Christening dress - anywhere I've missed ?!

Am searching for a dress for dd for her christening when she will be 10 months old at the end of Nov(but more 6-9 months size wise !). Don't want a gown and don't want anything too flouncy IYSWIM !!

Think I have exhausted EVERYWHERE - all the usuals but anyone got anything up their sleeve ?

Or failing that, somewhere i can get white velvet dress material ?

TIA !

What about a dress from Monsoon?

OrribleOliveoil · 26/10/2005 13:38

I got mine from M&S but it was about 2 years ago, 100% cream silk, lovely, not merringue (sp?) like at all.

Dd2 used it as well and it is currently at the dry cleaners.

Think it was £30 or thereabouts.

thanks all so far !! Have been looking at monsoon but they all have seemed a bit summery and/or flouncey (I am fussy I know). Hadn't thought of M&S - just had a quick look at their website and they didn't have anything there but did have a lovely dress for christmas so thanks !! Am going into town tomorrow so will have a look just in case (and get the crimbo dress !!)... Psychobabble, you know, I would have immediately said that dress was too flouncey but there is something about it that I love and it made me quite emotional looking at it . Although was thinking up to £50 so would have to persuade dh - perhaps if I promise to only have girls in the future and to not get them christened till they can fit this dress !!

Next does a really simple silk gown for £24.99. Good luck ! I spent all of saturday running around shops looking for a baptism gown for my 6 month baby girl. I decided to go for the Next option as it was simple and a good price. You can also order it online, or get it delivered to your local branch for free. Plus they have a cute cardie and matching shoes.

John lewis sometimes have quite nice christening type dresses.

Thanks all - will have a look round town tomorrow but am quite struck by the M&P one .... and I emailed it to dh and he said he liked it and didn't even baulk at the cost !! THANK YOU !!

jenkel · 26/10/2005 21:34

I got both dd's christening dresses from vertbaudet, quite plain and not too fussy. Not sure if they have anything at the moment, think they tend to be Linen.

melissasmummy · 27/10/2005 14:02

I got a ivory linen dress from Next catologue 18 months ago. It has a bow around the middle & some flowers along the hem.
