It's all me me me this week isn't it?

Anyway, have decided on a magazine sub, which one?

mmm, tricky. Could do something she wouldn't normally be able to get at her own newsagent? Does she like craft etc, maybe one of those?

If someone were to give me a sub I would actually love Good Housekeeping or BBC Food, or History Today.

mckenzie · 26/10/2005 09:40

Is she a young and trendy MIL? Easy Living maybe. It's new.

munz · 26/10/2005 09:41

we got ours a cross stich one but she loves it - paid for a years subscription for her.

chonky · 26/10/2005 09:43

Woman and Home (despite dodgy title surprisingly trendy)

SueW · 26/10/2005 09:43

No idea but can I plug this site which will give a donation to NCT for magazine subscriptions taken out through it?

binkie · 26/10/2005 09:51

Would she be offended by being given Saga ... ?

It's meant to be really good, honestly. Wins awards and that. Has a campaigning element.

Otherwise (haven't delved into other thread, sorry) what's she like, 15 words or less?

binkie · 26/10/2005 09:51

AAGH 15 words or fewer

milward · 26/10/2005 10:10

Good housekeeping, house & garden, woman & home or a weekly like woman or best delivered

Frizbe · 26/10/2005 10:10

If you have a look at the package from Debenhams, the person who gets the gift gets a choice from about 6 different mags? any good?

TinyGang · 26/10/2005 10:44

Any magazine subscription for £19.99 here

My mum told me about this and would like a Good Housekeeping subscription for Christmas, but they have lots of others too

OrribleOliveoil · 26/10/2005 10:48

thanks all, I am going to go to WHSmiths at lunch and have a flick through some, think Woman & Home is looking likely.

Carameli · 26/10/2005 10:55

we got both my mum and MiL Good Housekeepinglast Christmas and both have said how much they loved getting it each month. Certainly a success.

Another good one is the Good Food magazine. I have had this in the past and one day might go back to it again, but at the moment have 12months of mags to pour over for new ideas for cooking.

OrribleOliveoil · 26/10/2005 13:13

Have ordered Good Housekeeping, the one in Smiths looked like her kind of thing, thank you everyone.

Just have to think of some others now, but I will not bore anymore.

Ta ta.

Quick question for those who gave subscriptions last year - when does the first magazine arrive? in December or January? And do you actually have something physical to give on Xmas morning itself (eg. a card which tells giver that they're getting a sub etc?)

Thanks!

moondog · 26/10/2005 14:18

I's second Woman&Home.
Got it for my MIL and she liked it so much, she has carried on subscribing.

I think it's pretty good too (yes, despite the title)with many intelligent articles.

'Red' is good too and 'She' has just had a bit of a revamp although I haven't had time to read my copy yet.

Or maybe something less 'womanly'??
'The Spectator'??? Love or hate the right wing,it's a great read!

moondog · 26/10/2005 14:19

Jan I think Pam.
Can't remember a card, but I wrote details out nicely on a piece of paper and put it into a cunningly decorated box... (Oooh very Martha!)

OrribleOliveoil · 26/10/2005 14:21

pam70 - you can pick a start date and I picked Christmas Gift, they get the first one at the start of Jan. I was going to ask about the card thing! If not, I will just get a copy of the Dec mag and wrap it up and explain.!

Moondog - have already ordered darling!!

Pam70 · 26/10/2005 15:15

Thanks for that [smile} - MIL will be getting a mag sub this year too!

moondog · 26/10/2005 15:20

Eh olive?
Thought you wanted another subscription?
Or did you mean you had to suss out other presents for other people ?
(Sorry,getting frightfully pedantic and boring aren't I??)

OrribleOliveoil · 26/10/2005 15:26

no I meant I will have to think of some more presents for her, not subscribtion ones.

It is her birthday on Oct 31 - Halloween! (cue witch jokes) as well, so I have my work cut out.

moondog · 26/10/2005 15:29
