Moan about 'improvements' on a perfectly good product!

Don't you hate it when companies decide to take a perfectly good product ... 'improve' it ... re package it ... sell it at a higher price ... and basically change the product altogether?
For years I have been using Boots No7 Super Gentle Eye Make-up Remover. It is by far (for me) the best eye make up remover there is.
I was delighted when I moved to NZ and found that Pharmacies sell the No7 range ... I didn't have to try all the different types of eye make up remover to find the right one for me ... I could just go on with what I was used to.
Until this week. I went into the Pharmacy to buy a new one and couldn't find it. The No7 stand had a new range ... 'Daily V'. I asked the assistant about my usual product and got, "Oh no Madam. They have discontinued that range and have launched this new one now ... it is really the same product, just better with Pro - B5 blah blah blah." So after checking with her again that it was the same product I bought it....
Like hell it is! It is a totally different consistency and has left my eyes stingy and weepy after using it ... as well as not completely cleaning off my eye make-up.
Grrrrrrrrrrrrrr ....
Why do companies do this? It really makes my blood boil!
I bet you can still get the one I used to use in the UK ... but no, not in NZ ... grrrrrrr
Sorry for the rant ... needed to vent!!!

Persil Non-Biological liquid is the bee in my bonnet at the moment. Since they've re-packaged it to look like luxury bubble bath or something, they have addedd 'optical brighteners' aka bleach, which it didn't contain before. So now there is NO non-bio liquid which doesn't have bleach anywhere on the market (except Ecover which leaves clothes rancid IME)
BUT it's worth complaining: Body Shop altered a deodorant and then altered it back because of complaints....

Grrrr! They did this with Simple gentle eye makeup remover a few years ago. It was fantastic, shifted waterproof mascara with ease and didn't mess about with my eyes. The New Improved version was, quite frankly, c**p.

I got irrationally cross when Nescafe changed the shape of their jars too, although the product inside hadn't changed at all. Then I started boycotting Nestle and it didn't matter so much. Clinique were about to discontinue their balanced make up base a few years ago too and then didn't in the end - I've no idea why but I am glad. So I share your irritation, completely! IIRC Pizza Express made their pizzas smaller but then changed them back again after people complained. So it's worth a go.

Don't get me started on Fairy Liquid bottles...

Utka · 16/09/2003 13:01

Or the new look Saturday Times newspaper. Not a big fan of sunday papers - we always just got the Saturday edition (on the grounds that with a toddler, you might have managed to read it by the following weekend).

Now they've revamped it so it looks like a sunday paper, with huge supplements, and lots of stuff on lifestyles of the rich and famous (if I wanted that I'd buy Hello). The biggest loss is the 'weekend' section, which had simple bits on food, wine, gardening, clothes, and a huge, half page photo on the back page - normally of some incredible aspect of nature.

(Feeling better now, at least until Saturday)

I AGREE on Fairy Liquid bottles (my Canadian friends used to carry bottles home because the packaging was so classy...but then again, how sad is that?) AND Simple Eye make up stuff....A pressure group? (No...must get back to my job)

And what about that 'foil wrap' stuff that cornflakes now come in? It's horrible, it collapses in the box and then the flakes won't pour out properly. I've had to resort to putting my hand into the bag to get dd's meagre helping out - after washing my paws, of course. And another pet hate of mine is fruit-scented cleaning products. Why would I want my drains or lavatory to smell of something I eat????

Tissy · 16/09/2003 13:28

Blu, Surcare doesn't contain bleach. We get it from Safeway, but it's widely available.

WideWebWitch · 16/09/2003 13:31

suedonim, I was thinking the other day that our shower gel smelt like loo cleaner and then realised that the smell is, in fact, lemon. Hmm. I don't understand why no-one sells flour in bags or boxes that don't fall apart. I can't be the only one with packets of exploding flour in my cupboards.

oliveoil · 16/09/2003 13:32

Utka - Agree! Bring back Modern Manners or whatever it was called. And the woman that wrote about fashion (?) Harrumph.

doormat · 16/09/2003 13:43

suedonim totally agree about the cornies, the foil is horrible.
www I have exploding flour in my cupboards also, oh and sugar bags.
Also the plastic milk containers, I hate peeling that white thing off the top.

Angeliz · 16/09/2003 14:04

i hate some of the cartons of apple juice that have an oblong plastic but you have to push in,it never works and the juice pours everywhere!!On a nostalgic note can anyone remember "TEXAN" bars? They were a hard caramel type thingy with chocolate on.......MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM

an old moan, but avent's 'magic spouts' or whatever they're called instead of the old big fat toddler ones. They basically renderred my huge collection of avent bottles totally useless.
