Does such a thing exist?

As a toddler phone - to talk to grandparents on, without accidentally pressing other buttons or hanging up. But handfree so they can "show" grandparents all their toys down the phone.

If not someone should invent one, because ds really needs one.

Webcam?

We just use our BT DEC phones for this. No videophone (that isn't what you're looking for, right?), but a good speakerphone, so DS1 can talk to people, and we're still there to interpret if needed.

We and nanny have Amstrad Videophone, dd's stll press buttons but they love talking to nanny on it

What I really wanted was something to stop him hanging up. We are on a special phone rate where you get 15 mins for a certain price, but if he hangs up accidentally in the first few seconds it still costs the whole 15 minutes worth.

We have used speakerphone before, but now he wants to have "private chats".

headset?

Yeah, I'd use a headset. I think you can get them reasonably cheap ...
