Stairgates - how do i know which one to get?

We've got the Mothercare extendable one & it has no bar at the bottom to step over which is great. I'm sure there are loads without the bar that are just as good that others could recommend.

ive got a babydan one that is extentable, and has no bottom bar, and is easily opened with one hand (all of these things are essential i reckon) i got it in toys r us

If you are London based, John Lewis do a good wooden one that has no bottom bar and very easy to open with one hand. It is worth investing a bit because it will drive you bonkers if you get one that is rubbish (trust me!).

I've got a babydan one with no bottom bar and opens both ways (towards and away from you) which is extendable. I got mine from ebay - brand new.

Lindham extendables (£16.99 each Argos) are great.

No step over bar and do the job.
