As my tans slowly fades i will be thinking foundation.

I have dry skin and have never really found a great foundation. I have tried
Lancome (the light reflecting one)
Virgin
Clinique(soft something)

I need a medium coverage that makes me look like I HAVE slept in the last 6 months.

Any reccomendations. My skin is yellowy rahther than pink ish and so I have to be careful about coulur matching. IS the prescriptibves custom thing any good?

I have been given some samples of mary kay foundation by a friend who used to sell them, I have dry skin and find their foundation excellent, I can send you a sample if you can describe your skin colouring

jac34 · 07/09/2003 20:37

I think the best thing would be to go to one of the cosmetic counters, and have a consultation.
I'm in need of one myself, I changed my foundation last winter,to cover a scar following an accident. It has now faded alot and I think the foundation seems a bit thick.
I've always used Estee Lauder, as I like their fragrances as well, and usually buy when there is an offer on so I get some free bees.

SoupDragon · 07/09/2003 20:39

Where on earth do you find the time to put on foundation? Or, more to the point, take it off at night?

Tetley · 07/09/2003 20:41

Have to agree with SoupDragon! My compromise is tinted moisturiser - I'm currently using the Virgin one, but the Nivea one is also great (and chaeaper!) It's quick to put on, and just washes off at night....

codswallop · 07/09/2003 20:46

full make up soupy! Gives the veneer of being in control!

I have a bath and wash my hair every norning too and leave for school at 8 30. As our garage door opens and they all leave on/in wheeled vehicles it looks likeThunderbird two opening its doors!!

Avon? I have dry skin. They do foundation for all sorts. And loads of special offers. Usually end up spending about £15 on goodies that would normally cost about £30.

bunny2 · 07/09/2003 20:59

The best tinted moisturiser I have ever used is the one by Benefit, I slap it on in the morning and presume it has worn away by evening so no need to cleanse (used to be a 3-step Clinique girl b4 ds)

codswallop · 07/09/2003 21:07

Bunny NO! ALways take it off. I use those wipes when I ma relly tired and often baby wipes if drunk. You can do it as you sit on the loo - but dont get your wipes confused

you need a visit to a laura mercier counter, my girl.
I'm similarly dry skinned and slightly yellow, and she is the bees knees. and her secret camouflage concealer is the only one I've ever managed to use.
otherwise there is one lancome one which is OK, but I can't be bothered to haul myself upstairs to find out the name of it I'm afraid! anyway laura mercier is much better...

jac34 · 07/09/2003 21:20

I always use Boots baby wipes to remove make up, I always stock up when there is BOGOF or 3for2, the locion moisturises as well !!

bunny2 · 07/09/2003 21:30

Coddy, when I am drunk I have to brush my teeth in bed, I figure any makeup will come off on the pillow anyway. Am I a bit lazy?

pie · 07/09/2003 21:35

Just to second PPH on the Laura Mercier. Or you could try Becca or Linda Cantello.

These can be quite hard to get hold of though so out of the more accessible try Christian Dior Teint Dior Eclat Satin, which is very good on the mositurizing side of things and not too heavy especially if you mix with a bit of moisturizer anyway.

If you want to get a consultation then please try not to go to one counter as they will only push their product. Try a Sephora or Space NK where the consultant won't be under pressure to push one product over another.

WendyRead · 07/09/2003 22:11

Christian Dior has the most wonderful products! The one that I use is Diorskin - it comes with the pad and you slap it on over moisturizer--one step for foundation and powder. I love it anyway. They also have a fabulous eye cream called Capture R60/80 called the ultimate wrinkle cream. I am the oldest out of all of you I believe at 46, I REALLY need to reduce my wrinkles! You might have to rob a bank first before you get to the counter to pay, but you are worth it right?

pupuce · 07/09/2003 22:19

I do like Estee Lauder (the creamy compact so VERY easy to use) but am looking to change too.

sliverx2 · 07/09/2003 22:52

I like maybelline everfresh but that is'nt 100% i'm trying to change too, but that my fav so far. I dont like paying throw the nose if it ends up being no good. Anybody knows of freebees/samples i could get make hands on, has i try emailing most make-up com asking for some, but nothing please let me know.

pie · 07/09/2003 23:07

coddy, if you have dry skin then it really would be best to stay away from any poweder or solid foundations btw.

And I worked at Estee Lauder Head office many moons ago, they own prescriptives and to be honest I think that for the same sort of money you can get a better quality product if you shop around. Their foundations do tend to be on the heavy side.

ANGELMOTHER · 07/09/2003 23:35

On the now rare occasion that any slap hits my face, I do have a few favourites. (I used to be a product junkie )

  1. Yves saint laurent: Le touche Eclat is worth any amount of money as it really does cover those eye bags.

  2. Another Laura Mercier fan, can't remember which one though.

  3. A true favourite has to be Chanel, it's one of those all in one numbers which is instant and wonderfull, again too lazy to move and find out which one.

I also have really dry skin and for removal found YSL do a cleansing water which is fast easy and removes everything.

samACon · 07/09/2003 23:44

Coswallop, I don't know where you are but my friend is a Mary Kay bod - she can find an agent for you ( or try and persuade you to join their club and be your own agent!! I've been to a few of their meetings and always feel so old and cynical 'cos their so excited and evangelical about it)

Personally, I'm cheap and I use Rimmel or Avon.

Don't use foundation (also have yellow skin and is impossible to find a good match) - I have found a concealer by MAC (John Lweis at Bluewater) which covers any dodgy bits and always use Touche Eclait by YSL as I believe that there is not another product that could make me look so awake when I can't remember when I got a good 8 hours for god knows how long.

Benefit do a great cream thing that makes your face look glowing but cannot remember the name and Stila (SPace NK) do the best lip glosses ever - I am allergic to somethign they must put in lipsticks and end up looking a bit Lesley Ash!!

Bad news is that I took make up bag out last night at friends to lend her my tweezers and left it there - I will be devoid of staples until Wednesday when I can get over there so at the mo am trying to improvise and look a bit shiney - eyes also a bit sore but dragged old mascara out and think it may be off!!

metired · 08/09/2003 08:48
