Hi, I'm looking for a new car that is ideal for a baby. I like the BMW 1 Series and the Honda Civic. Just wondering what you think of each. X

I have owned two Honda Civics and have been very pleased with them. They have a much better reliability record than BMW and I have never been let down. Running, insuring and servicing a Honda would also be cheaper than a BMW.

According to Which Honda are the second most reliable car brand after Daihatsu. BMW are placed at number 13. That said they have reviewed the BMW 1 series and really liked it.

We have a Honda Civic (about to change as we need more space) and it has been fab.
Friend has BMW 1 series and loves hers too. Hondas generally more reliable but it probably comes down to which shape you like best!

The Civic, 100%

We test drove both & ended up with the 1 series but have regretted it ever since.

We've got a 1 series (the DM Sport model so it may vary). Cheap to tax (£105 per year) and there is a new eco model which I think is £36 a year. Ours costs £60 to fill with diesel (when really empty), this lasts us for min 500 miles. Our insurance isn't much to go by as I have only been driving for 3 years and haven't got any no claims (oops! Blush )

The only thing I would say is that the back seats dont have a lot of leg room for adults, and the middle seat is very uncomfortable for any journey longer than 15 - 20 minutes.

Never even been in a honda civic! But thought that might help!

We love our Civic and the lack of spare tyre makes the boot big. Fine for family of 4 with limited crap! We have a maclaren and bugaboo in the boot (don't ask!) with no problem.
Enough room for 4 adults, one baby for a weeks holiday if you pack vaguely sensibly!

Civic - I loved ours, and sil has a 1 series, and it is really tiny and v expensive for what you get

I test drove a Civic and a 1 series last year when I was car shopping. The Civic hadn't worn very well inside and looked a bit tired for the age of the car. 1 series really weeny inside, more expensive, higher insurance and no boot space. Really underpowered too for a 1.6.

I ended up with an Audi A3 sportback, 5 door hatch which is great, lovely inside, great big boot, fun to drive and v. good safety etc. Insurance group 12 (not too bad) 2.0 petrol £200 tax per year/2.0 diesel £110 tax per year.

id rather eat my own arse than own a BMW. yes yes stereotyping and all that - but its not wrong from my considerable experience of driving.

but new civics look really wank

MrsFruitcake · 20/02/2011 16:19

BMW 1 series. I have one and its perfection. I have never driven a better car and I've had a few. It fits all 4 of us in and boot is surprisingly roomy.
