SIl gave me her moses basket and I don't know how long it can be used for. Does anyone know generally what weight is mmaximum- ds is now 9 wks and looks like he takes up 2/3 of the lenghth but I want to keep him in it as long as poss as we are staying with friends soon and it is nice and familiar for him. Also he looks so cute in it..

Not aware that there is a weight limit. More to do with whether baby is still a comfy fit or has started to roll over. ds was about 14 weeks when we moved him into his cot but still slept in a carrycot at 6 months when we took him on a canal boat trip.

just done a google search and a load of manufacturers of moses baskets come up - most say they are suitable up to 9kg (think thats about 20lbs??) whats that in months???? I've been wondering this also

my baby lasted five months in a moses basket and then couldn't move her arms properly! we tried to keep her in it as long as possible as we had her in our room and her cot was in her room and we couldn't move it! the other option is a travel cot - they cost about £50 and you can use them for up to about two years.

I think LIZS is right - I don't think the actual weight matters so much as whether they can move enough to make it unstable (ie by rolling over or sitting up). I imagine that most babies start to move about before they meet the weight limit - though having said that if you have an enormously large but inactive baby then it might be handy to know the recommended weight limit. I can't remember exactly when we moved DS out of his - I think somewhere around three months - but we did use it later on trips but put it on the floor rather than on the stand so he couldn't topple it over.

My DS only lasted for 6 weeks in it...he was a real fidget and kept hitting his legs and arms on the side, which only got him more agitated. He slept so so so much better when we moved him into his cot. But if your DS is happy in it, keep him there for another while. He'll let you know when he wants more room

Thanks I will carry on for a while using it.
