hello
I need some help. My mum has very very kindly offered to replace our old decrepid sofas with new ones. However she has around £700 to pay for them and I would really like leather with a toddler and baby on the way. I would like 2 2 seaters if possible and hopefully something that would be here before xmas..as baby is due week before xmas. Sooooo the challenge is to find me some nice reasonable leather sofas. The room has cream wallpaper and beige carpet. The dining chairs are blue and couches we currently have are blue but i dont mind them changing.

chocolate brown or black

teeavee · 08/10/2005 17:57

eurgh, no black - brown nice
dfs?? (can be dodgy design, but good interest free thingy

I saw some nice ones yesterday in Harveys, Furnitureland is closing down, but they are still very expensive.

vickiyumyum · 08/10/2005 18:02

argos have some nice leather sofas, and a couple of friends have got them with no complaints so far!

unsure on colours, love the chocolate brown thing, but have been into so many houses that, have beige/cream walls, wooden floor or beige carpet and brown leather sofas seems to be a kind fo uniform for good taste! although not sure what the alternative would be. my aunty (only 6 yrs older than me at 35) has a nice navy blue 3 seater and 2 seater i think they got theres from land of leather.

Nemo666 · 08/10/2005 18:04

I dont mind the colour just need to know where to look.
Navy one sounds nice as would go with the dining chairs..sounds odd but we have a through lounge and diner

its a lovely suite, don't think it was that expensive either. got squishy seats so is comfortable too, some latehr sofas can be cold and not very comfy to curl up on.

i would go round all the furniturs shops in your area and sit on them, put you feet on them do as you would at home! i thought navy sounded not very nice until i saw them, and it looks lovely in her room as she too has a lounge diner with blue chairs (the chairs are stained blue wood) and it looks nice and co-ordinated, cream walls and navy curtains, with wooden floor at the dining end and carpet at the lounge end.

We have the BOGOF choccie leather sofas from Argos and they are fantastic, would definatly buy them again.

twinsetandpearls · 08/10/2005 21:43

Agree that brown is a better option than black, we got ours from dfs, modern and comfy and nice wide square arms ( not a hint of elephant scrotum!) to balance a book or a tub of ice cream on!

Mum2OneAndBump · 08/10/2005 21:47

I think your best bet for the price of £700 would be Land of leather, dfs or argos, and i would go for the blue as you have a through lounge, i think the brown would look odd with your blue chairs

I have bottle green leather sofa's, very kindly sold to me by jampots, I have beige\natural coloured wall and it looks fab.

Advice that was given to me was to choose your sofa's first and decorate the rest of the room accordingly.

You could have your dining room chair seats reupholstered to match.

lucykate · 08/10/2005 21:57

i think argos is your best bet for that budget. they do more in leather than they used to, and you should be able to get a swatch of fabric to check out the colour/quality before you buy. they also do alot of buy the 3 seater, get the 2 seater free. my mum has one from them and its ok. ours is from dfs but was more expensive.

leather is definatley the best choice if you've got kids, baby sick wipes up off it no problem. leather sofa's imporve with age, fabric sofa's don't.

waterfalls · 08/10/2005 21:58

wow look at these 2 for only £599

lucykate · 08/10/2005 21:58

ps, if you're thinking about colours, ours are deep red and they are divine! (walls are cream, carpet beige)

waterfalls · 08/10/2005 22:04

I was told (by someone in the know!) to buy mail order-much much cheaper for comparable quality-they take up alot of space so need big showrooms which are of course expensive.

The Cotswald Company have some nice stuff.
