Which 7 seat car?

serin · 21/01/2011 21:27

We need a new car (well a second hand one) preferably with 7 seats as we have 3DC's and an elderly mother who keeps being left behind!

It would be great if it could also tow a caravan.

Have been looking at the Hyundai Santa Fe but there doesn't seem to be a lot of the 7 seater models available.

Anyone got any ideas?

We have a renualt espace, its fab. Seats slide back and forth, easy to take out. Loads of room in boot even with seats in.

We have also had a citreon synergie which is the same as a peugeot 806. Great cars with sliding doors but slightly more van like than the Espace Smile

bruffin · 21/01/2011 22:06

Have you looked at Seat Alhambras. I work for a dealership that sells Seat and Hyundai

cece · 21/01/2011 22:08

We have a Renualt Grand Scenic and love it. A bit smaller than the Espace as we don't use it in 7 seater mode very often, just when we have grannie's visiting or friends around for tea after school.

Zafiras and similar-sized cars are great for giving several children lifts over short distances, but the back seats are a bit tight for adults, and you can't carry luggage and six or seven people. Espace-sized ones are probably what you're looking for.

MrsKitty · 21/01/2011 22:16

We've just got a Mazda 5 to replace our Zafira. Seems pretty good at the moment. I find the seating alot more flexible/practical than the Zafira.

CantSleepWontSleep · 21/01/2011 22:18

Depends on your budget, but our Discovery would meet your requirements.

tassisssss · 21/01/2011 22:22

Zafira is fine if you're only going to use back seats from time to time or if you're going to leave them permanently up. Not fine (IMO) if you want the flexibility of going to Tesco with 7 seats up and wanting to pop back seats down to get shopping in...we now have a verso and I love it. But not great if you want lots of leg room in the back seats.

Zafiras are ok but no boot space with all seats in use.

Seat alambra's are the smae spec as galaxy's. Outdated compared to others.

Discovery OH YES!!! but bloody expensive Sad We had a new 10 plate for a courtesy car.....didn't want to give it back!!

Dawnybabe · 21/01/2011 22:33

Volvo XC90.

Utterly gorgeous and the two extra seats just pop up and down out of the boot floor, so you can have either seven seats or a cavernous boot almost instantly!

babybear5 · 21/01/2011 22:35

i have a sharan which is the same as the alambra and the galaxy. Not huge amount of boot space but leg room and versatilty of seating etc is fab and they are reasonalbly cheap to buy. I have 5 dc so this is fab and i am actually on my third sharan Smile
In fact i have one sitting in my drive for sale that needs little bit of work done..we didn't have time to get it done and another one came up for sale so decided to get it. Highly recommend them Smile

Alhambra is the same as the Peugeot one (can't recall the name this late on a Friday Wink) is the same as the Citroen C8 - all have supermarket car park friendly slidey doors. The Galaxy (unless it's changed recently) doesn't. Interior layout is pretty much the same though - handbrake on the right hand side takes a little bit of getting used to, but the gearstick on the dashboard (like a van) means you have the space between the two front seats to put your handbag, and it doesn't get stood on by passengers when you have to chuck it into the passengers footwell [love my C8, hate DHs Golf emoticon].

IShallWearMidnight · 21/01/2011 22:53

seats are pretty heavy to take out though, and you do need somewhere dry to store them. They fold down enough to give a reasonable sized boot though.

HSMM · 21/01/2011 22:58

Loved my Toyota Previa and kind of like the Toyota Estima I have now. Lots of boot space and comfortable.

Kirisox · 21/01/2011 22:59

I love my VW Caddy Maxi Life, 7 seats and big boot

serin · 21/01/2011 23:03

Oh Wow thanks for this info, I have never heard of some of these!

Totally love the look of the XC90 but not sure our budget will stretch to that.

Does the Nissan Qashqui have 7 seats then?

SoupDragon · 21/01/2011 23:07

It is really a 5+2 rather than a true 7 seater though. It has a cavernous boot, piss easy pop up seats, 3 proper individual seats in the middle row so perfect for 3 car seats, Middle row also pops down to produce a huge flat boot space (perfect for Ikea, not so great for kids :o)

I can't fault it. However, I only need the extra seats occasionally.

serin · 22/01/2011 22:07

Going out to big car supermarket tomorrow to do some test driving, the boys are so excited! they have only ever known our current car and the eldest DS is 10.

If you look at Autotrader you can pick up an old XC90 for very little. It might have high mileage but if it's got a full service history it shouldn't be a problem. Volvo's are very reliable.

Can you tell that I want one?

mpuddleduck · 01/02/2011 21:25

Depends how often you want to use all 7 seats, but I opted for a peugeot 307sw and put two extra seats in the back (some of the car dealers didn't even know you could do this).
It is just like an estate car and incredibly cheap to run with low tax and insurance as well as 52mpg diesel.
