Any recommendations for a compact stroller, please?

Ds is 4 months old and at the moment we have a huge Graco travel system. It's nice and easy to push, comfortable and ideal when out walking, but takes up so much room in the car that we even bought a new car because of it.
What I'm looking for is something comfortable that ds can use for the next couple of years, that'll also fold down fairly small and not take up so much room in the boot.Must also have a decent size shopping basket too.

Any suggestions,please?

TIA.

my MIL is in my good books, as she has bought us a maclaren quest - folds up so easily, very manouverable - and has shopping basket, though I find it difficult to stuff things in it underneath the seat. Otherwise, a godsend

bubbaloo · 07/10/2005 13:39

Does it fold up fairly small, teeavee?

yes, it's as small as they get I should think - has a roof thing to provide some shade too, which is handy I suppose. It's v light and has a strap for slinging it onto you shoulder and carrying baby in the other arm. I do this without any problems when I go up and down the stairs to our 1st floor flat. It can also be manouvered, opened and closed really easily with one hand.

I tell you, since having it, I've been wondering why on earth we stuch to our big graco for so long!

teeavee · 07/10/2005 13:43

it's more pricey than some others, nut my MIL said she decided to buy us that (v generous of her ) because it was the one that made her the least flustered while trying to open and close it

Wow,thanks for that-it sounds great!
Off to google it now.

I have got the maclaren techno xt which is very similar to the quest except slightly more sporty with a few extra features, although it's consistent with it's weight. Would highly recommend

another vote for maclaren quest, plus it will take a buggy board.

bubbaloo · 07/10/2005 14:11

Thanks janbo-Think I'll go to Mothercare and have a proper look.

Donnie-I've just been reading some reviews on the Quest and it does sound very impressive-will bear it in mind,ta.

we have had our 3 years and it's been abroad, bashed about like hell and is still fine! you can get a string bag to fit across the back that will hold a fair bit, plus the handles will take lots of carrier babs, handy for the brent x sprees!

donnie · 07/10/2005 14:37

bags, even!

ionaming · 07/10/2005 18:34

Another vote for the Maclaren Techno here. And although the basket is small, you can hang tonnes on the handles .....the beauty of having 2 handles rather than the single bar type

bubbaloo · 07/10/2005 20:50

Have just got back from Mothercare with the Maclaren Ryder.I did like the Quest and the Techno but I think the chocolate brown colour and the furry cosy toes swung it for me.We put ds in there to try it out and he's still in there...and very happy.

Thanks again everyone.

brill!!

bubbaloo · 07/10/2005 20:54

We drove the poor woman mad for over an hour.Think she was glad to see the back of us-he he he!
Can't wait to take it out tomorrow-I'm off to an NCT sale and at least it will now fit in my friend's boot.

doe sit have the two handles to hang your bags on??

vickiyumyum · 07/10/2005 21:23

i think most maclarens are a good buy! well done on choosing one, although don't get caught up in the bug, once you start buying buggies you can't stop! and i know its not just me there are so many threads devoted to buggyaholism on mumsnet.

bubbaloo · 07/10/2005 21:29

Yes its got two handles. The basket isn't very big-on my Graco it's huge. Most of the strollers had small baskets-suppose you can't have everything!
Couldn't believe how expensive it was though-it cost more than my travel system,so definately wont be buying another one.
It'll also be put away for any further babies too.
