.. that fit 3 car seats in back?

Am expecting DC 3 in May, already have a four year old and a 2 year old. Resigned to having to trade in my beloved golf estate as not enough room in the back for 3 car seats (even 2 plus a booster is an interminable faff that I cannot face upteed times a day!). Any suggestions for cars that I should be looking at?

The peugoet 307sw fits three car seats in the back. There are three individual seats. Plenty of boot space too. It is also quite low, so easy to put bikes on the roof, if you all like to cycle....

Keep your car and buy one of these.

We did and get all four DCs in the back of a Mk1. Fiat Punto. Grin

How much do you want to spend. New/Used?

BendyBob · 11/01/2011 09:27

We used to have a Xsara Picasso when our three were very small were dealing with car seats.

You see a lot of them around, so not the most unusual car in the world, but they do have 3 good seats in the back and a decent boot and you don't have to bend down so far to attend to the children when you're getting them in and out.

fourunderfour sorry to hijack this post but I came on here to post this exact question, we have a will be 3 yr old when his twin babies arrive and we have a VW Passat Saloon, please tell me more about this seat thing... it looksamazing!!

heavenstobetsy · 13/01/2011 11:38

our VW touran can fit three seats across the back - we have a high back booster, a stage 1 and an infant carrier. Easy peasey!

We have a Xsara Picasso, can easily fit 3 seats in the back but although its a practical car its not that great to drive.

We borrowed a VW touran a few years ago (after dh smashed our car up) and it was great to drive, plenty of room for an extra car seat but not much room in the boot (if using the extra seats). It was by far the best car to drive (loved the extra gear), if i had enough money i would go for the Touran.

propercrimbo - sorry for delay in replying.

We think the multimac is a great product and it's solved lots of problems for us by allowing us to cart four children about without changing cars.

We are big fans but there are probably some cons as well as some pros and it may not be for everybody. As honestly as possible:

Pros

  • It feels VERY solid and well engineered
  • Front-facing seats are comfy, judging by 3yo feedback
  • Easy to fit once someone has shown you how
  • Made by a small kitchen sink company so you get a very personal service!
  • The alternative is (in our case) buying two new cars

Cons

  • You won't get much change out of £1,500 - base price is less than that but it's not really workable without some accessories
  • Won't fit every car (you need to check) and some of the adaptations needed may feel a bit "homemade" (We needed to remove the door skin from the Punto and drill a couple of extra holes in the underbelly of my MPV)
  • It weighs 40kg so switching it between cars a bit of a struggle (though possible)
  • Made by a small kitchen sink company so prone to (ahem) supply delays. Ours was several months late but they lent us a demonstrator for free for that whole period. And the CEO (and inventor!) travelled down from Birmingham to Kent on a weekend to fit it for us.

We think it's great, but it's a niche product and not cheap so best to go in with your eyes open! Happy to help with any other questions.

We have a fiat multiple which can easily fit 3 seats in the back.

YouNeverCanTell · 30/01/2011 22:36

Skoda Octavia does the job for us. Huge boot too!

sleepwhenidie · 30/01/2011 22:41

Second vote for the multimac-we have a four seated version in our car and it is great, although I can't wait to be rid of the infant seat, it just doesn't seem as secure and cost as other baby seats and it's a real faff to get it in and out. I used a maxi-cosi in front seat early on, if I knew I wanted to take ds2 out of car when we arrived.

Unlike fourunderfour we had no delays but also met the inventor (bit mad prof but nice)! I would definitely agree with "homemade" bit in relation to the infant seat.

Where are you? You are welcome to come and look at ours, we are N London.

sleepwhenidie · 30/01/2011 22:41

Cost? cosy!

Louplet · 28/02/2011 22:28

We have the same issue. DC3 due in Sept. Had thought of a XC90 Volvo as was recommended to us by a friend but I now gather it just has a booster seat in middle rather than taking 3 car seats so back to square 1 Confused
