Calling buggy experts/obsessives

Ok here's my brief:

My 3 yr old will be nearly 4 when the baby is born. Therefore a double buggy prob not necessary. Probably need a buggy board for him??

Will prob be having a c-section so can't have a newborn buggy that is too heavy.

I am 5'11" so need one with adjustable handle.

Want single push handle thing so I can still hold toddlers hand.

Don't want big 3 wheeler - need to fold it easily and small-ly so it goes on busses and in car boot.

Does such a buggy exist?

Summary:
Light weight (but sturdy enough for buggy board)
Adjustable single handle
Small.

Go on ladies, give me your best.

Thanks by the way if anyone has any ideas at all. I'm totally stumped on this one.

Desperatehousewife... i'll be interested to see any responses as i'm in pretty much the same situation, although ds will be almost 3 when peanut is extracted and i'm 6!ft!!

desperatehousewife · 30/09/2005 18:33

come on ladies - don't let me down...I know some of you have had lots of buggies!

ds was 3 yrs 5 months wehen dd arrived and we used the board less than 10 times. Guess it depends how much walking you are likely to do and how compliant ds is when walking, as to whether you'd need one.

vickiyumyum · 30/09/2005 19:02

what about one of the graco series?

NomDePlume · 30/09/2005 19:04

Gracos are awful. They're cheap, nasty and the bigger ones are pretty heavy. Will have a think about alternatives for you.

LadyTophamHatt · 30/09/2005 19:05

I agree with NdP. Graco are awful.

NomDePlume · 30/09/2005 19:07

This has excellent handle height, adjusting up to 110cm ! Is light at 7.2kg and is a good quality make.

NomDePlume · 30/09/2005 19:09

This is the Cossatto version of the Graco citilite, so is likely to better made, but I just don't think they look cosy enough for a newbie, and the handle doesn't look 'tall' enough

NomDePlume · 30/09/2005 19:10

Personally I'd go for the first one, the Jane (no accent on my keyboard...)

tegan · 30/09/2005 19:16

I like the Jane that looks really nice. Graco have brought out a new travel system which is a small light weight buggy but also has the car seat that fit on - you know what I mean

Tinker · 30/09/2005 19:17

Quick hijack - are Toys r Us own brand made by Cossatto?

NomDePlume · 30/09/2005 19:18

I think so, tinker

bran · 30/09/2005 19:18

One thing to watch out for is that a lot of adjustable handles go taller by swivelling upright which means you have to walk closer to the pushchair with a higher handle. It's worth trying it in a shop first to see whether you kick the axle when walking with the handle in it's highest position.

Oooh, trigger happy tonight. Sorry.

Tinker · 30/09/2005 19:20

Thanks NdP. Spotted Cosatto written on one (er, big clue!) so wondered if they did them all. Are Cossatto considered to be ok?

NomDePlume · 30/09/2005 19:21

I've had 2 cossatto things, a big 2in1 bouncy pram and a buggy and both were great.

Tinker · 30/09/2005 19:22

Oh good. Hijack endeth.

desperatehousewife · 01/10/2005 09:34

i knew you wouldn't let me down! Thanks. will look at Jane (is that the brand?)

Hiya, thought I would throw a spanner in the works & recommend the Maclaren techno. Very lightweight & reclines fully flat. It has 2 handles, rather than the one that you requested, but I find it actually easier to push this one handed than a friend's bugaboo which is just as light but has a single handle! I also find the handles very useful for hanging a week's worth of shopping off of (not recommended, I know, but we all do it!). Personally, I would only buy a pushchair with 2 handles - I've had 2 pushchairs with single handles & I definitely prefer having the 2 handles !

SleepySuzy · 01/10/2005 14:44

Bran is right about the handle, if you go for one which is made higher by a hinge, you will have to push it further away if it has a sticky-out basket. This will not do your back any good.

desperatehousewife · 01/10/2005 15:01

I have tried pushing my maclaren double handed with just one hand and it KILLS! Impossible to steer one handed. I am going to have a toddler in one hand and a buggy in the other. I really don't see there being any other option than a single handle pusher!

i don't think you'll need a buggy board. ds was 3yrs5 months when dd was born. we don't have a buggy board (actually we inherited one but it was broken), & he's been absolutely fine. in fact, it's been great for his stamina.

in terms of buggys, we've got our old britax travel system & an old mothercare 3 wheeler, both of which are very comfy for dd & only have 1 handle. i do hanker after a new 3 wheeler though....
