Calling buggy experts/obsessives

Ok here's my brief:

My 3 yr old will be nearly 4 when the baby is born. Therefore a double buggy prob not necessary. Probably need a buggy board for him??

Will prob be having a c-section so can't have a newborn buggy that is too heavy.

I am 5'11" so need one with adjustable handle.

Want single push handle thing so I can still hold toddlers hand.

Don't want big 3 wheeler - need to fold it easily and small-ly so it goes on busses and in car boot.

Does such a buggy exist?

Summary:
Light weight (but sturdy enough for buggy board)
Adjustable single handle
Small.

Go on ladies, give me your best.

Thanks by the way if anyone has any ideas at all. I'm totally stumped on this one.

I'm seconding the "no buggy board" recommendation. My DS1 was 3 when DS2 was born, and we've managed without. Well, I did put DS1 in the pram a wee bit, and carry DS2 in the sling, once in a while in the early days, but now that he's 4, he never goes in the pram.

We do use a like-a-bike, rather a lot, to get places quickly and without too much whinging.

desperatehousewife · 01/10/2005 16:18

hmmmmm....interesting. I worry that we won't get anywhere without a lot of wingeing, me shouting and DS taking FOREVER if we don't have a double buggy/buggy board. Also he does still get quite tired when out and about all day (still crashes in buggy at the moment for half an hour.

Oh quandries!

jane are great, but not sure about the buggy board option on them, so hopefully someone else will answer that for you.

never had a graco, just seen loads of people with buggy boards with them, so assumed they must be good for buggy boards. never brought one because i didn't like them, too plasticy!

desperatehousewife · 01/10/2005 16:43

the only thing about the Jane is that it's £180 which I think is a lot for a 'plain' buggy

hoxtonchick · 01/10/2005 16:44

if it makes you feel better dhw, i really want a mountain buggy urban which is £369....

desperatehousewife · 01/10/2005 16:47

Yes, a bit thanks HC! After spending £300 on the M&P Pliko Travel System 3 years ago I'm really really reluctant to shell out more than £100 this time round.

I bet I end up using the M&P again....all 13kg of it. Grrrr. Nearly split my scar last time round!

OP posts:
hoxtonchick · 01/10/2005 17:39

yeah, our britax one is 12kg. it's a pain isn't it, & i had a normal delivery.

fairydust · 01/10/2005 17:54

what about a mamas and papas aria weighs 5kg and only £99.99 from argos and that includes a bag - raincover and afootmuff

spacecadet · 01/10/2005 17:59

arias are great but i found out when i bought a buggy board, that they dont fit on arias, so got rid of mine.

kath4kids · 01/10/2005 18:15

don't buy an aria their a nightmare to push without a buggy board on. I hate mine. anyone want to buy it? hijack over

desperatehousewife · 01/10/2005 19:31

yes was looking at Arias until I discovered they don't have adjustable handlebar height. So that's that one ruled out. Humph. Can't believe how difficult this is!

OP posts:
starlover · 01/10/2005 19:41

how about this one?

starlover · 01/10/2005 19:42

argos do the chicco ponee so you could have a look before you buy as well!

desperatehousewife · 01/10/2005 19:44

looks fantastic - how come it's only £50?!! Wouldn't get a buggy board on it, but I'm fast realising i'm going to have to compromise somewhere.

OP posts:
starlover · 01/10/2005 19:47

i think they must be discontinuing it because a lot of places seem to have it half price... is supposed to be £120

bran · 01/10/2005 19:49

I suspect that Chicco is actually made by Graco as it looks a Citisport or a Mothercare Citilite . If it is then I don't think it would be very suitable for desperatehousewife as when the handle is in it's highest position she would be so close to the pushchair that she would step on the buggy board. Without a buggy board the Citilite is pretty good, I'm 5'7" and I don't need to have the handle at its full height. I think if you were to use it for a new born you would have to put some extra padding on the seat though as it's not that cosy for a very little baby.

starlover · 01/10/2005 19:51

dhw are there any nursery shops in brighton you could go and take a look at them?

starlover · 01/10/2005 19:58

istead of a buggy board maybe you could have a carrier (baby bjorn thingy) and just pop baby in that when ds gets tired? then he could use buggy for a bit

monstersmummy · 01/10/2005 20:08

if u have a pliko and ur eldest will only be occasionally walking why not stand ur son on the little step tyoe thing above the brake? Won't work with the buggy in lie flat mode but i would go with the baby carrier mode for a teeny tiny anyway.

maybe get ur eldest used to walking more?

LIZS · 01/10/2005 21:20

There used to be a baby store in Woodingdean, near the traffic lights. My SIL got a Jane there a number of years ago.

desperatehousewife · 02/10/2005 08:54

that shop has closed. But yes there are a couple of baby shops that sell pushchairs. Need to 'test drive' some I think.

Think I'm going to have to compromise somewhere aren't I? Probably in the getting my little boy to walk everywhere (god help my patience though!)

Really appreciate all your ideas. Keep em coming if you get any flashes of inspiration though!

Cheers

hoxtonchick · 02/10/2005 09:17

i'd start making him walk more now dhw, less of a shock when the baby arrives.

NannyL · 02/10/2005 10:37

when your baby is tiny you could put your nearly 4 year old in the buggy an dhave baby in a sling...

then when baby is heavier (and crucially your eldest is that (crucial) bit older) baby can go in buggy and eldest can walk

starlover · 02/10/2005 19:55

dhw have been spying on all the pushchairs and prams that came into clarks today! have to say a couple of the graco ones looked qutie nice, although you wouldn't fit a buggy board on.

i think unless you're willing to pay more then you may have to look at getting him to walk!
when is baby due?

desperatehousewife · 02/10/2005 20:33

Thanks SL! I'm due first week of March, so he'll be 3.8yrs.
