Ok here's my brief:

My 3 yr old will be nearly 4 when the baby is born. Therefore a double buggy prob not necessary. Probably need a buggy board for him??

Will prob be having a c-section so can't have a newborn buggy that is too heavy.

I am 5'11" so need one with adjustable handle.

Want single push handle thing so I can still hold toddlers hand.

Don't want big 3 wheeler - need to fold it easily and small-ly so it goes on busses and in car boot.

Does such a buggy exist?

Summary:
Light weight (but sturdy enough for buggy board)
Adjustable single handle
Small.

Go on ladies, give me your best.

Thanks by the way if anyone has any ideas at all. I'm totally stumped on this one.

well i would wait as long as poss before deciding on baby's mode of transport. you might find that he decides he likes to walk everywhere after all by march!

slight hijack... are you coming to the christmas meet-up?

desperatehousewife · 03/10/2005 08:30

no, don't fancy it i'm afraid! I'd much rather be anonymous to be honest.

I have the answer! The new Bugaboo Cameleon fits all your critereia to the letter. It has a single telescopic handle, is buggy board compatible (their own one anyway) and is reasonably lightweight. It folds in two parts so you don't have to lift the whole thing in one go.

The down side; it is really quite expensive, £599.00 for the buggy and £49.00 for the buggy board. I love the fact that the baby has a lovely comfy carrycot to sleep in while they're tiny though.

Ooh sorry! just re-read whole thread and realised I missed the bit about your budget (doh). Just ignore my last post. Sorry.

t&c, thanks for the thought. I got really excited then!! But definately not going to pay £600. let me know if you get more inspiration!!

Hi desperatehousewifw

I had my second last eyar when dd1 was 3and 5 months, i thought about a buggy board as she was a nightmare walker, but decided to wait as I used a pram for the first few months and then a bugg and didn't want to buy 2 different style buggy boards, but by the time we moved on to the pushchair dd1 was walking everywhere. We ahve even beem on daytrips to London and she has been fantastic, I could not believe my eyes. She never wanted to walk anywhere until she saw there was no choice really.

Also I got her used while on maternity leave, starting with short trips top the shops, library, to get a magazine etc. and kept up once baby2 was here as we really ahd loads of time to spare and not much to do with the 2 of them, so we just took long leisurely walks (I'd expect one morning just to get to the videoshop and back, normally a 15m trip!!)leaving her time to stop whenever she wanted (unless baby was crying to be fed!!) and without me even noticing she turned into a very good walker!!

Re pushing one handed, I usually get dd1 to hold on to the oushchair and only hold her hand while crossing the street. She's very good in that as she's terrified of cars!

Best of luck, but don't rush into any purchases just yet, see how things go once baby's here

Kidstrack2 · 05/10/2005 12:30

my ds turned 4 two weeks after dd was born, I had a big 3in1 cosatto pram and ds held on to the side of it walking to nursery etc but then when I ventured further afield ds was tired and couldn't keep up i.e into town, long walk to the park, therefore I had no option but to purchase a buggy board, it attached fine on to the pram and when not in use I stored it underneath, thinking back now it must only have been used for a few months but then again it was a god send when ds was tired. I would def get a buggy board if you are an outdoor person and walk everywhere, even if you only use it a few times you end up getting your money back on it buy selling it on!

desperatehousewife · 05/10/2005 17:52

webmum and kidstrack - thanks for your thoughts - Mine is a boy and i'm sure boys are less good at doing what they are told (ie: hold on to buggy whilet we are walking), so think buggy board probably is necessary for me if I want to get anywhere at more than a snail's pace!

dhw how about this one?) not sure if you can use a buggy board with it though, also saw ink{http://www.mothercare.com/invt/lx1313&bklist=icat,5,shop,shotravelpushchairs,trapushchairs,pusforwardfacingthis one while i was in mothercare earlier... looks quite nice. it doesn't have an adjustable handle but you could go in and try it out!

starlover · 05/10/2005 21:24

oops!

lets try again!

inglesina

mothercare one

curve · 05/10/2005 22:11

I have the Inglesina Espresso suggested by starlover. It is lightweight & has an adjustable handle, my dp is 6'1" and I'm 5'6" and we can both use it comfortably & can use it one-handed. I got it for my ds when he was about 4 weeks old, he's 13 weeks old now. I really like it and ds seems to like it as well. My only complaint is that it doesn't lie completely flat for a newborn, which isn't so much of a problem now ds is bigger.

desperatehousewife · 06/10/2005 07:58

oooh thanks sl and curve...will try that one. The other one sl is 12kg and too heavy. thank you so much for thinking though. Will find a big mothercare i think and go for some test drives!

startingtobehalloweenylover · 06/10/2005 21:20

ooh blimey yeah, didn't notice that!
i have a FAB pushchair, the i'coo platon but it's 16kg!!!!!!
Definitely not one for hopping on and off buses with. In fact it's an arse even getting it in the boot of the car

mothercare at bluewater is fabby excellent if you;'re up that way, but i think the brighton branch also has a fair selection

bran · 12/10/2005 21:16

desperatehousewife have you considered one of these for your ds? It wouldn't get in the way of your feet like a buggy board.
