Bl**dy BL**DY World Books

For the last 2 months they've sent the s*dding editor's choice even though I phoned up and pressed "No" - option number 97 etc.
I am now trying to cancel my membership and there is absolutely no way of doing it because you cannot speak to a human being - I have sat through endless different menus on the phone but there is no way! The website does not have a cancel membership option or even an email address - so I suppose I will have to send a quaint old fashioned letter, but god knows whether that will achieve anything.
I wouldn't be ranting so much, if they hadn't substituted 3 of my 6 introductory books with utter crap "editor's choice alternatives" because the ones I actually wanted were out of stock! GRRRRRRRRRR.

Write to them and say that you chose the No option for these books and will not be paying for them. Also say that you wish to discontinue your membership and that they should not send any further books. Make it clear that if they do you will not be paying for them. Keep a copy of the letter.

Then if they send any more you are within your rights to keep them.

Also, do not send the books back, tell them that if they do not collect them by X date and they were unsolicited items, you will assume they do not want them back and will be keeping them at no cost.

Damn - I've already sent them back (at my own expense).
I just want to put an end to it, and will send anorak's letter.
Thanks.

I used to have that on the phone with The Softback Preview I finally got away from them - it wasn't easy! Don't do book clubs now.

Mind you - I was getting the 'no human to talk to' routine with my credit card the other day and went round and round in circles. We seem to live in a mad world of computer voices on the end of the phone!

Turquoise reject the editors choice through their website as they then send you an email saying that you have done so. If they then send you the editors choice it is their fault and you have proof.

turqoise , my mum has had terrible trouble with World Books. When she tried to cancel they still sent her the books because she hadn't taken ehr full quota for the year. They even did this while chasing her for "outstanding amounts" for the books she didn't ask to be sent and threatening legal action, so the cycle continued. Agree with anorak and send it recorded delivery.
