Anyone got a Kindle? What's it like?

OK, I'm considering moving over to the dark side and getting DH to buy me a kindle for Christmas. Anyone got one? Is it like reading a book? What's the battery life like? Are there other similar products on the market, and if so are they better?

I have one for Christmas. I love it. Battery life is approx. a month with wi-fi switched off. No backlight, so it's like reading paper. There are other ereaders about, but IMO the Kindle is the best value for money.

DH has a new one, I've got the old one as I got it as soon as it came out in the UK - we both love it.

Fabulous battery life, so easy to use, and very easy on the eye.

I travel a lot for work, so have the 3G so I can buy new books wherever I am

I have the 3G version, purely because DH bought it and likes to have the most gadgety of gadgets Tbh, I'd have been fine with the wi-fi only because I rarely find myself in the middle of nowhere and requiring a book iyswim.

Get one! You'll not look back! I love mine. I love that when someone suggests a book, or I see one advertised I can look it up immediately and decide to buy it or not. I have the 3G one for the same reason as PaxiIsEvil - DH is a gadget freak.

I've created collections on it for myself, DH and DD and it has loads of other great features that I'll probably never get round to using. Oh yes, battery lasts about a month with wi-fi switched off.

My brother has a kindle and i was wondering...is there a kind of itunes voucher for the kindle i can buy him, so he can download the books?
