Can you still buy chip baskets?

I hardly ever fry anything so I don't want to get one of those deep-fat fryers but I've got a load of scampi in the freezer left over from when we had our pub and I need to use it up. I've tried shallow frying it and putting it on a tray in the oven, neither of which worked very well. I thought a chip basket would be a cheap solution but I don't know where to get one. Any ideas?

Try hardware stores.

if you want to deep fry it in a chip pan then you can just use a big slotted spoon to get it out again

my mum used to always make our chips for us and never had a chip basket!

You can get them in Morrissons supermarket. I know this because I asked an assistant in there the other day if they had a sieve and he showed me a chip basket...

Thanks, I guess I'll use a slotted spoon then! I'm so used to cooking big baskets of scampi at a time I didn't even think of the obvious solution. Doh! (as Homer would say!)
