RENAULT SCENIC RX4 - can anyone give me their opinion please...?

I hope some of you can help me please. I currently have a Scenic and I love it. However, I am thinking of getting the RX4 purely for the four wheel drive as we live in a very rural and hilly location.

I am interested in your experience of the four wheel drive. Is it permanent or do you change to 4WD? has it been any good in the snow? Any great points? Any massive down points?

We used to have a 2001 one when we lived in Switzerland , don't know if it got modified since but not many made for UK and they retain value well. The 4wd mode was permanent and it coped ok with snow/ice but felt quite heavy for its size (not driven other 4*4's really to compare though), served us well for 4 years apart from clutch and electrics issues. Best thing was the flexible seating so you could slide the rear seast forwards for more boot room or flop the middle one down for skis etc and high up position.

Thanks for posting LIZS, I have had a nissan terrano which would not be my first choice family car because it felt like I was riding a camel! my scenic is a great family car & I agreeabout the rear seat flexibility - the 4WD version seems to be a good compromise.

Hi, have only just seen this.

I have a Renault Scenic RX4. Diesel. Its about 10 years old. I think its great. The 4wd bit is not permanently on (so a bit more economical). According to a mechanic I know the 4wd bit kicks in automatically when sensors sense that a rear wheel is not gripping - so it engages.

I love all the storage in the passenger footwells for kids bits and hidden storage under the rear seats too. The rear seats slide out or flip down either one,2 or all 3. Loads of sensible and thoughtful features. I reckon women were involved when planning it.

(Havent been able to track down a User Manual for it yet - a bit rare)
