Telescope

Ds wants a telescope for his birthday at the weekend. I can only find ones in TRUS for £25 but they seem quite "toy" or alternatively I need to spend about £70 at Argos. In view of the fact we've bought him a PS2 game I dont really want to spend more than about £45. Does anyone's child have one that you could recommend as being good but not kiddy? TIA

I will ask DH when he comes home

He has one but a proper adult one but he may be able to help with magnification etc.

Does he want it for astronomy or wildlife?

How old is DS?

DH says not recommend a telescope for under £70

The £79 {refractor} in argos is OK but the £129{reflector} would be soooooooo much better.

craters on the moon, jupiter moons, with the cheaper one but bigger and more detail with more expensive one.

Or get some binoculars

Hope that helps a bit

Will get DH to look for more examples for you maybe cheaper

How old is he?

How much space do you have? cos DH telescope is huge and takes up loads of space in dining room

Or do you want one that can be taken down or permenantly on its tripod? iyswim

well ds will be 9 on Saturday. He would have liked to keep it in his bedroom but in reality that would be ridiculous (bedroom 17'x9.5') mainly because his bed is under the window and in typical boy fashion his bedroom is littered with lego/games console etc etc etc

So possibly keep it in the lounge but alternatively in the playhouse

Happy birthday to him for then

Will see if DH can find one or more examples of suppliers.
