What plastic base ? Do your mean the cushion part or to use the back rest on its own ?

bea · 18/09/2005 18:23

it's what they call the comfort base... flat plastic thing which you hook under the back bit of the seat in the car and then you slide the rodi onto it...

oh dear i hope i haven't read the instructions completely wrong!!!!!

i haven't got a plastic base either, or at least i don't think i have will check when dh comes back with the car!

when they showed me how to fit it in mothercare world it was just sit it on the car seat, thread the seat belt throught eh top and plug it in! no mention of comfort base. ours is new, was brought a couple of weeks ago with the insurance money after a car accident. does the age make a difference?

LIZS · 18/09/2005 19:25

Our Rodi is 4 years old and we didn't have one with it. It just goes straight onto the seat . Is this what makes it recline ?

bea · 18/09/2005 19:38

yes! i think it's so you can make the seat recline....

I thought the plastic base was a safety feature as it pushes under the car-seat back and then the booster seat sits on top

why would you want to attach it without? wouldn't that make it less safe?

LIZS · 18/09/2005 19:48

Looking at the maxi-cosi.com website you must have a Rodi XP and perhaps Vickiyumyum has the SPS model which doesn't recline. Why not give the distributor, Dorel, a call (Tel. (020) 8 236 0707) and see if you can use without the base.

If you have to move it from one car to another it might be handy to know if you need to use it or not as it sounds a faff to refix onto the base each time. However would agree with Twiglett that it sounds better both comfort and safety wise.

bea · 18/09/2005 19:52

this is what i'm trying to figure out as we are moving it from car to car and it is a bit of a faff.. dh thinks we can do without it but my retort is if it came with it, then it must be part of its saftey thing...

LIZS - yes it is the xp... maybe i should have memntioned this at the beginning! sorry!

We have the XP and use the base, but I think the instructions said it wasn't 100% vital. It isn't hard to move, though.

vickiyumyum · 18/09/2005 21:59

this is the one we have maxi cosi rodi

looks like the xp, but no one ever mentioned the base to us, so dh not not happy in case mothercare have 'forgotton' to tell us about what could be an importnat safety feature!

but i would say that it isn't absolutley necessary as ds car seat fits in our car rather snugly and very secure once seatbelt plugged in.
