changing mobile phone networks

My mobile bill seems to be huge at the moment and I only have 1 month left on this contract. I use about 200 mins and 400 texts a month and I'm currently with orange. My phone is a sony k700i which is a bit battered but ok.

Now, do I go for a new phone and contract or just buy a new sim? Vodafone have a deal on new phones, plus 200 mins and 500 texts for £30 a month. Or there is a good sim only deal online at O2 for £30 which is 400 mins plus 1000 texts but will that sim work in my orange phone?

I liked the look of thge motorola V3 or the samsung Z500 on Vodafone. Anyone love or hate either of them?

All of a muddle, please help. If anyone can find my basic needs for cheaper please point me in the right direction

hate motorola phones, have just gone back to a nokia on 02..but don't know much about the models you're talking about. sure someone else will know more.

this is mine but I have it through a package at work, so not sure if it would be cost effective for you. nice phone tho and v easy to use

fuzzywuzzy · 14/09/2005 17:59

o3 chips only work in o3 phones, I say this through experience. Dp got a motorola, which is absoloutely awful. I prefer Samsung myself mines a d500.

Munchkinola · 14/09/2005 18:01

That one is one the Vodafone deal too

Hmmm thats not good news about the sim only thing. It does say use your existing handset but I'm guessing they have been deliberately vague

the CPW people were really helpful when I went in, I just said I want something really simple and the handset only cost me £10 on my existing contract

Munchkinola · 14/09/2005 18:16

Thanks Bundle, I might be brave and go in. I'm a bit of an easy target though and I always come out spending more than I was going to. Thats why I was trying online so that they couldn't sweet talk me

the guy (in oxford st) agreed with me re: motorolas and I said there's no way I'm changing my contract..so which phones could i have? there was deffo no hard sell but they obviously have a massive backlog of these phones as they were pushing the offer (free if you traded in your old handset). the image quality on photos is v good and it's a v light phone.

My friend has that Nokia and finds it easy to use as well so I am tempted. Think I might go and have a play with that and the samsung fuzzywuzzy mentioned. That seems to be on offer everywhere too.

I text alot, i have an o2 online sim only contract thing where i get 200 anytime mins and 1000 texts per month for £25, that was a special offer though but ime o2 are best. Although their customer service aint great but seems to be getting better.

And i find sony ericssons to be the best easiest phone to use, certainly for texting. And ive used nokias, motorolas, o2 phones, phillips and prob some others i dont remember! Definately prefer sonys.

You can get your phone unlocked so that you can use any sim from any network but you have to pay for this and the amount varies depending on the make of phone, nokias being the cheapest and easiest.

I would go into a phone shop and say i need to get a new phone in a months time, say that your contract hasnt run out yet or something, that way you can ask all the advice, play with all the phones but without having the pressure of having to buy one then, just ask for the sales assistants card or something to keep them happy! Then you can go home and find what you want online and prob get a better deal!

Arrghhh I'm obviously not paying attention, o2 chips should be fine in any handset. It's 3 that only go in their own phones... Sorry, sorry

Cool Thank you very much

I'm off to the shops on Saturday
