£28 for a two pack of PJs???? They are for sleeping in fgs! I'm all for the odd boden top (if they are such good quality they can be handed down etc) but honestly, £28 for PJs for small children - the phrase 'more money than sense' springs to mind!

How much?!

Distel · 13/09/2005 16:34

They arn't even anything special. 2pac like that in asda is a fiver .

Skate · 13/09/2005 16:35

Exactly - Tesco, Asda, Matalan for PJs! Fair do's on buying more expensive clothing if it's better quality etc. BUt PJs?? It just doesn't matter does it?

starlover · 13/09/2005 16:36

yeah and the asda ones are made from cheap materials in a chinese sweatshop.

i know which ones i would prefer!

hunkermunker · 13/09/2005 16:36

Mental.

Skate · 13/09/2005 16:43

Well actually - i buy from Tesco and I have it on good authority that are very good on ethical compliance - I can buy cheap PJs in confidence!!

Batters - I know someone who assesses major stores for ethical compliance and she told me Tesco are one of the best. Matalan are also good but not BHS (don't shop there anyway)

Agree with you on this Skate. Pjs and underwear from cheap shops such as Asda. But buy DS a set of character underwear (again characters only for underwear and pjs) from Woollies to pad out his stocking. My policy of only allowing characters in places where they can't be seen backfired somewhat when he spent most of last Christmas pulling down his trousers to show all and sundry Spiderman.

Problem atm is that I can't get hold of long pjs for DD in 12-18 size.

starlover · 13/09/2005 16:51

yes but Nike say they are "ethical" and that they have changed their policies on sweatshops... but there have been various undercover investigations which have proved that it is nto the case!

i think i am just very cynical....
(btw, i did say asda, and didn't mention tesco at all!)

flamesparrow · 13/09/2005 16:51

"Now two pairs in one pack, at a great price."

starlover · 13/09/2005 16:53

i guess it's all relevant to income etc etc

to a lot of people £28 is cheap for pyjamas...

JoolsToo · 13/09/2005 16:55

you can mens pjs from M&S cheaper than that!

flamesparrow · 13/09/2005 16:57

Where are these people who find that cheap?

Why aren't they sharing any of their money with me???

Here's me all bouncy cos I got DD some used Care Bear pjs off ebay

Skate · 13/09/2005 17:10

C'mon - even if i was minted I would not pay that for PJs - I'm not daft!

Bozza - I struggled to get ds3 long pjs yesterday. THe only ones they had in matalan said 'I'm a little monster' - I got them though as I thought well, they are only for bed!

pacinofan · 13/09/2005 17:16

It's not relevant to income at all. Even dual income high earners have better things to spend their money on, I'm sure.

Another vote for Tesco clothes here from this household!

steffee · 13/09/2005 17:16

I think all pjs are extortionate! I went searching everywhere last weekend and the cheapest I found was £11 for one pair! And that was in Woolies, Adams, Mothercare, BHS etc. Probably does have a lot to do with income but £11 is scandalous IMO, and £28 is not that much more. Wish I'd thought about asda/tesco.

skeptic · 13/09/2005 17:16

M&S must be about that for 2 pairs, no?

£28 is totally taking the piss. And I agree that we ought to think about where/how these things are made - but I don't think that paying a high price guarantees you ethical production. In fact, having bought a pair of Boden trousers and then noticed they were made in Morocco I emailed them to ask about their policies on ethical production, fair working conditions etc and never got a reply. (Jonnie was probably too busy worrying about dog poo in Kensington)

NOOOO - M&S are not that expensive.

And I'd agree more expensive doesn't nessecarily mean ethical.

nike used to pay five dollars for a tshirt, the sort they sell for thirty pounds here. after 9/11 they decided it would be only three dollars.
i know coz my sisters friend has a factory in the subcontinent that makes them.

Enid · 13/09/2005 17:39

well I am no Boden fan , but I bought two pairs of pjs for dd1 3 years ago from Boden. They are still going strong and now dd2 wears them, unlike the cheap tescos ones.

I got dd1 two nighties in the sale last year and she has worn one of them almost every night since and they still look good as new.

Tescos make things cheap by shafting their suppliers (and as dh used to be one I should know) so its up to you.
