Dd is in a Maxi Cosi Priori at the moment but we have just got a second car and need a second car seat..don't really want to spend a fortune on one which will only last one more year (the 9month to 3 year type).
Can anyone recommend a seat that will fit an average size 2 year old but will last a few years?

We bought this one because we also got a second car and as the child gets older, the back of it can be removed and made into a booster seat.

That looks just the job - thanks Micku!

Oh no! I rang Britax and they said that that one (Britax trio) will not fit in my car (renault clio).

Anyone know of another seat that might do?

OK....

Just thought id post this....

basically the car seats that do well in SAFETY for 2 year olds ARE the stage 1 car seat (9 - 18kg) which in reality is to about 4 years for all but the largest children...

there are SOME car seats that are 9 - 25kg (or even 9 - 36kg) but in the Which? reports they do VERY poorly...

the ones they have in the dangerouse do not buy offer VERY poor protection catagory are as follows:
Britax crusier plus
Mamam and papas Elan
Britax ranger
Britax trio
meggy kombi

(bear in mind they didnt test EVERY single car seat)

Child up to 18kg are MUCH SAFER in a car seat with a 5 point harness than one that just uses a seat belt, and it is safer to keep them in these until they outgrow them, as thses are safer than high backed booster seats...

Once you child is 15kg the Which? magazine recommends:
Concord Lift (protect or Evo)
Maxi Cosy Rodi
Britax Highliner (currently on offer in motehr care for £39.99, i bought one of these at the weekend)
Britax kid

In this age it recomeends NOT buying
Storchenmuhle Starlight (???)
Graco Junior plus
Mamas and Papas passagio...

therfor for the sake of your childs safety i personally WOULD get another stage 1 car seat, (for up until 4 years / 18kg) )or if you have a very large child who is nearly 15kg go for one of those ones).

Also Britax do do a car seat for 9 - 25kg that does have a 5 point harness, so that one would be safer (i assume tho the which? magazine does not include that one)

The Stage 1 car seats it recommends are the ISOFIX ones (by far the best)
and apart from that, Maxi cosy Priori And Chicco Key1 do well as well

(the Britax renaissance VERY happily fits in my car as does the maxi cosy priori XP By the way!

(its a clio!)

Thanks NannyL - I think I better weigh dd then break the bad news to dh....was def. wanting one with a 5 point harness although she can now wriggle her shoulders out of the straps on the maxi cosi ..grrr.

Ok, now thinking of a britax highliner for ds (4years) and either a reanaissance or elite for dd (elite looks like it'll have more room)

Any opinions on the Britax elite?
