Wher can I find a dress for an 11 year old?

My neice wants a dress for her birthday and I tried at the weekend but failed miserbly - ended up buying a skirt and top - quite willing to take these back or save until Christmas if I could find a dress. She is size 10-11 or age 11, would like a semi smart dress suitable for parties, family and church events etc . .
I didn't realise what a void there was at this age since my DD is only 4! Am willing to pay up to £30 - does anyone have any suggestions please???

Monsoon?

Next should do dresses in her size, or you could find out where your nearest Tammygirl is?

BosworthBear · 12/09/2005 09:51

I like the M&S velour one, perhaps with the cardigan, I did try there but these weren't in the shop. The Debenhams are too trendy - her parents would't let her wear them and they need to be suitablr for Autumn/winter. Monsoon was great but dress I liked was £55!!!
skirt and top I bought were from Next because of the lack of choice in dresses!
i realise that many shops do sell her size but it is the lack of dressses that is the problem.
Thanks for the ideas so far are there any others?

Does it have to be in store, or would you buy something online?

BosworthBear · 12/09/2005 09:57

I would buy on line if the sizing is realiable.

red one on the right

goes up to age 12

and here

or are these too 'party'?

BosworthBear · 12/09/2005 10:16

Too part unfortunately - The skirt and top I bought are the ones on the left, middle of the 3 models - not sure that her parents will approve of the top though, when you take the shrug off it leaves a small strappy top.

TKMaxx?

I just looked in The Kids Window but the nearest they had was this , which looks gorgeous but way too big and also not suitable for winter.

Worth looking there regularly though for something like that.

I did try their Nottingham store, great for my DD at 4 and DS at 2 (have the bills to prove it!) but useless at 11!!!!!!!

La Redoute?

BosworthBear · 12/09/2005 14:24

Her birthday is on Monday and I find La Redoute hit and miss with delivery times. Has anyone actually seen the M&S pink velour one mentioned earlier - seems to be my best bet at the moment!

ime 11 year old girls don't wear dresses! Much better off with a nice skirt & top which she can mix & match with other stuff.

BosworthBear · 12/09/2005 14:32

I agree thats why I bought a top and skirt but since she actually asked for a dress I thought that I would try. I suspect that is why all the obvious shops have got nice but slightly limited autumn ranges in (could do with another couple of weeks) but not many dresses . . .

Sorry I haven't seen it, but also noticed if you scroll down abit there is a pink front tie cardy which could also change the look giving another outfit to it IYSWIM and you could get both for your budget

Thanks everyone - I am off to M&S for the dress and the cardigan. Should even have time to order and post it if necessary!
