What do you think of bed canopies for children?

My dd is 4. She saw a Nursery catalogue and fell totally in love with a Disney princess bed. It is what she wants for Christmas.

It has the full works - canopy etc BUT it is really expensive and at 4 she would outgrow it quickly.

There is no way we would spend that sort of money. I saw a Princess canopy that says it can fit most single beds but my mother reckons they are dangerous as could fall and suffocate a child. I can't see how a dangerous product could be on sale though.

Has anyone had one or seen one attached to a bed?

I wouldn't get one, but mostly cos I think that at some point it is going to get pulled and then fall down, leaving a hole in the ceiling.
Look pretty, but probably going to be a pita

I don't see how it could be that dangerous as you say ,they wouldn't be selling them.
The one you linked is a bit hideousover the top ,but expect a 4 yr old would love it .
My first thought is it would be a dust trap .

Dust. DD had a mosquito net and the amount of dust it attracted was beyond ridiculous.
The bed thing you showed was beyond hideous a little girls dream.

DD has a pink net over the head of her bed. Been there for the 5 years we have been in this house and it is fine. has neverbeen pulled or snagged, nor does it gather dust or dirt.
