someone asks for help to find something but doesnt acknowledge all the effort you puy in?

OP posts:
Donbean · 05/09/2005 22:28

yes, why has this happened to you?

Chandra · 05/09/2005 22:30

Sometimes it does, I find it rude when the person has taken a long time to write a careful and long post and all the effort is ignored. For small simple, irrelevant things, I don't.

starlover · 05/09/2005 22:30

yes it does!

mumtosomeone · 05/09/2005 22:31

I have noticed that some people post for help etc..then never seem to go back to respond to feedback!!!
I sometimes do a search for relevent things and leave links then am over looked!!!

OP posts:
Donbean · 05/09/2005 22:36

Just to add, it was nice too, im not a good cook so need all the help i can get!
I do try to get back to previous posts as often as poss to say thanks and give a little update but its not always possible as i cant always get here every day.
Its happened to me too so i understand where you are coming from.

mumtosomeone · 05/09/2005 22:40

thats posting ...not posing!!! oops!!!

OP posts:
ionaming · 05/09/2005 22:49

Totally agreed. It often seems to get really clique-ee (have no idea how to spell it ). I stopped posting on another site coz it seemed every time I posted I was ignored in favour of comments from more regular posters Thought it was just me being petty, but glad others feel the same! Iona x

starlover · 05/09/2005 22:51

i think i must do this sometimes and i will tell you why!

because i am on so many threads that when i go to threads i'm on they aren't all listed (i'm on more than 40)
so quite often i forget about other threads that are still reasonably newish and never go back to them because they aren't on my list

handlemecarefully · 05/09/2005 22:54

I can see why it might annoy people, but tbh it doesn't really bother me. I just assume that the poster got side tracked / distracted and forgot to check back on the thread.

If I start a thread asking for help however, I do try and keep checking in and thanking people....

yes I can see that happens..I try to go to threads I started if I ask something specific!

OP posts:
starlover · 05/09/2005 22:59

sometimes, i remember that i started a thread, buit can't even remember what it was on, or what it was called... so then can't even search for it!

but then, i am a bit stupid

mumtosomeone · 05/09/2005 23:00

arent we all!!!

OP posts:
MumOnaMission · 06/09/2005 00:00

I think I'm actually a "thread killer". Once I've give my advice no-one posts to that thread anymore! Well sometimes anyway - I click "threads I'm on" and up come all the subjects with me as the last poster.

ionaming · 06/09/2005 21:48

Mumonamission........now you're not the last post

BadHair · 06/09/2005 21:55

Ah, um, I have to admit that I'm terrible for this. I tend to post late at night when not many people are around, then not come on for a couple of days. By the time I get back I don't always remember to check as I assume (often wrongly) that no-one has replied.
Or sometimes I come on here from work, where I can't post on chat sites, then forget to come back when I'm at home later.
But when I do find replies I do try to say thank you, even if it is rather belated. Sorry if I'm one of the people who've annoyed you, but all advice really is gratefully received.

Woohoo. I just came back to say "see what I mean" but looks like I didn't kill this one! Watch this be the last one now

MumOnaMission · 06/09/2005 23:29

ooops

Flum · 06/09/2005 23:34

I sometimes ask for advice but can't stay online long. So I look at the advice a few days later and then post a thank you. But I guess the thread is long dead by then so people don't always see it.

Rest assured that someone someday will search the archives for that very thing and your advice will be used. I should think.

I always try to look in archives first as you can read stuff straight away rather than wait for a response.
