Hama Beads - what age?

Any of your children used Hama beads? My DD is 5 and I was thinking bout some for Christmas and also buying some for her friend's (5th) birthday this month.

What age would you say they are suitable for?

my son was given these as a fourth birthday present, but tbh he is too young for it. ds1 who is 8 loved them

We got some for my little cousin for her 5th birthday - at her request. Apparantly she loves them.

And are the Ikea ones just as good?

I gave them to the girls who attended my son's 6th birthday party and they seemed to be well received. My own dd has them too and has been able to make things with them since she was 4 but she is very artistic and dextrous. Boys like them too (well my boys do).

My DD has played with these since she was just over 2 & a half! But at that age she never managed to complete a shape board, nor follow the pictures (just used random colours) but she still enjoyed them immensely. One tip for you is to get dd to play with them on a tray that has "sides", otherwise the beads end up rolling all over the place !
