Another printer cartridge question - colour or photo ?

Kayleigh · 03/09/2005 16:13

Sorry if this is a really thick question but ....
If I am printing some photos and some colour work on my printer should i be using the photo ink cartridge all the time. Or should i take it out and use a non photo colour cartridge to print colour stuff (that isn't photos)

Thanks for helping ...

Oo-er, Kayleigh - I didn't know there were different quality cartridges, I thought it was just the paper that mattered so no knowledgeable help here!

If the photo cartridge is more expensive than the ordinary one it might be worth it BUT every time you change a cartridge it charges the print heads; last time I did it, the black one was showing 100% before I did it and 90% afterwards (I changed another colour), so that was a bit worrying.

Could you ring the manufacturer's helpline?

I am not a computer wizz... but don't photo cartridges have 4 colours , (not with a black, and the red is a red colour not magenta) and ordinary colour ones only have 3 colours? Hence the quality of colour is supposed to be better and more realistic.

I get a good quality photo print from my epsom 3 colour cartridges and you can not tell the difference from the origional if it is a scanned photo, so personally I would not spend the extra.

Tech where is that spellchecker...I need it!

Hello, Bunglie! (I know I owe you an email it is on my loooong list of Things To Do)

I have an Epson too, with 6 cartridges (black, 2 cyan, 2 magenta, 1 yellow) - it's called a Photo Stylus so is supposed to do better photo prints but haven't tried it yet. But Kayleigh's is an HP I think (she was looking for cartridges on another thread) so it'll be different.

Kayleigh · 03/09/2005 16:39

yup, i have an HP photosmart 7200. It takes two cartridges a black one, and a colour OR photo cartridge.

Gawd I hate technology, it's all so bloody confusing. Bring back the typewriter !!!

Hi there 'mum' Janh! I have an HP and I have 3 colour cartridges for that one as well, but they do do a 4 colour as well but I thought that was only with their photo-printer, you live and learn. If hers takes a 3 colour cartridge I would still personally buy that.

Is your epson like mine that the colour cartridge is 3 colours and the black is seperate but slots in next to it? As they do do a 4 colour cartridge that does not include black and it is no different in colour quality in my opinion.

I will let you off the email and I shall send you one with my latest news in the next few days

No, ours has 6 separate little thin cartridges that can be replaced independently. It doesn't appear to have a "black only" print setting which is b annoying.

Ours is a photo printer - it has slots for sticking your memory card in so you can print photos direct from that. But it's an all-in-one too - print/scan/copy.

Good luck, Kayleigh - I hate technology too!

Ooer! I can see this might be a case of the Bunglies keeping up with the Janh's and Kayleighs...now where is that typwriter....I think I know someone who wants one
