Ear thermometers - are they safe for babies?
Detta · 02/08/2003 20:11
Does anyone have one of these? Are they quite safe to use on a wriggly baby?
WedgiesMum · 02/08/2003 20:20
Personally found it the ONLY thing I could use on my wriggly babies!! Only takes 1 second to do, pop it in the ear as described and click the switch - dead easy and simple. It can't go in too far either and do any damage (or at least that's my experience of it). HTH

My cousin was a premature baby nurse at Kings and this is what she used.

the only downside is the loud beep when it takes the temperature - when he's feverish it's enough to make him scream. Othewise it's brilliant

I think these are excellent, as they seem the only reliable way of taking young children's temperatures. I have used mine on both ds and dd from a very young age and GPs also seem to use them too. Definitely worth the money.
cas1968 · 04/08/2003 09:51
Yep.
You must NEVER, EVER put a thermometer in a baby's mouth.
SoupDragon · 04/08/2003 09:53
I think they're great. The ones you put on their forehead are pretty good too if you want a cheaper more portable one.
My ear thermometer doesn't beep BTW...

I have one, had to keep dropping hints to the grnadperants as couldn't bear to fork our £40 for a thermometree but now that I have it, wouldn't do without it!
Zerub · 04/08/2003 22:19
What make of Ear thermometer have you all got? Are they really that easy to use?
I got a Thermotek off ebay and have tried taking my own temp with it, and dd's, and dh's, and none of them read any more than 35 C. So either we're all dead or its not working...
princesspeahead · 04/08/2003 22:21
mine beeps too, soupy.
its a braun - new purchase - seems fine to me. the thermotek sounds like a bit of a disaster zerub - change the batteries and try again??
