being a bit pinickty here...i have searched high and low for a free standing vanity unit, with a sit on basin...sort of like this....

vanity unit

but not like that...

and a sink like this...

sink

but which is ceramic and not acrylic....

i had found the almost perfect one in IKEA...the sink is perfect... but the unit had little gingham curtains instead of nice white slatted doors...!

i want the big lay on top sink all in one type as i can't bear the thought of having a sink sunk into the unit and then having water drip around the sides and the silocan sealant becoming all black and icky! ... what do i hear you all cry? clean and wipe around the sink more often... don't be silly!!!

what do you all think...

should i persevere in searching high and low for what i consider quite a standard simple unit and sink and can't believe it is so hard to find... ?

should i buy the lovely big sink from ikea and try and find someone who will make the unit to my own picky standards?

should i buy the whole thing from ikea and take the curtains off and buy doors and put them on... (would this be possible to all you diy-ers out there!?)

many many thanks to all you sensible people out there who have managed to read through all this and offer any advice possible!

bea, you're right not to want an inset sink, they do get icky round the edges, and leak after a while too, I had one on a thick piece of kitchen countertop and kept getting horrible puddles inside the cupboard.

I should think get the IKEA unit plus sinktop and then either get doors off the shelf somewhere, if there is a size that fits or can be trimmed to fit, or get someone to make just the doors for you. You could live with the gingham while you were waiting?

Or you could try an actual bathroom centre, their things tend to be expensive but they have sales!
