I am going to SPIT if i trip over dd2's useless cot one more time... WHERE is the cheapest and best place to get BUNK BEDS?!

Aitch · 08/09/2010 13:37

honestly, that bloody cot... she hates it so spends half her time in with us...

i've looked online and on freecycle etc, all the cheapo places just seem a bit suspicious to me, but how long will they use them for anyway?

ebay?

thisisyesterday · 08/09/2010 13:41

i think it depends on ages of your kids and what you get as to how long they'll last

for example, we spent quite a lot on thuka bed for ds1. atm it's a short midsleeper. but we will eventually add another bed to make it into bunks. later we can buy a kit to convert them into full size beds.

so, lots of money, but should last them til forever really!

i think it's worth getting ones that can split into 2 separate beds, but if you're only envisaging needing them for a really short time i would def buy from ebay or put a wanted ad on freecycle

GypsyMoth · 08/09/2010 13:42

where are you?? roughly

Aitch · 08/09/2010 13:43

i have been looking for the ones you can split (not so many second-hand there of course)... ikea are doing a pair now but they are black, unfortunately. what's a thuka bed?

I got ours from m&s, they are beeeeeauuuutiful Grin

Really sturdy too, they don't wobble when I climb up to make the beds.

They assemble them free of charge too which was a huge bonus for me.

They weren't the absolute cheapest but included matresses (not sure ifthey still do) and imo were worth the price.

FerminaUrbinoDaza · 08/09/2010 13:44

Ikea?

FerminaUrbinoDaza · 08/09/2010 13:45

x posts, but there are some there that aren't black

OmicronPersei8 · 08/09/2010 13:46

What is cheap? Ikea do bunk beds for £89, but that doesn't include mattresses. Or they do a midsleeper you can put a mattress below, making a low-level sort of bunk bed.

OmicronPersei8 · 08/09/2010 13:47

x-post Ah, I see you've already considered Ikea.

Aitch · 08/09/2010 13:47

oh yes, the other thing is that i don't want metal. [fusspot] [tosspot]

that m and s offer is over, which is a pita tbh or i'd have gone for that... they do look perfect. but it's just a lot of dough i think, when you include the mattresses.

see the new norddal ones from ikea. perfect afaic EXCEPT i don't want my two beautiful girls in a black bed. how depressing. [twat]Grin

That's a bugger. Unless you could get mattresses cheaper from somewhere else?

YunoYurbubson · 08/09/2010 13:51

We recently bought the Ikea reversable bunk bed.

It can just be a normal single with a 4-poster frame effect. Or you can flip it upside down and it is a bunk with one mattress on the floor. The undreneath bit makes a brilliant den, but for now ds is sleeping on it because there is nowhere to fall when he tumbles out of bed.

FreakoidOrganisoid · 08/09/2010 13:53

Paint the norddal?

Aitch · 08/09/2010 17:00

i would say that i would paint the norddal, but i never would... i know only too well.

that kundal thing looks good, but of course would give me only one bed at the end of things, so probably not the cheapo-est solution in the long run.

(you know i do like this new feature with the grey OP posts and everything but when it's your OP it does make you feel a bit needy and attention-seeking, i must say) Wink

You don't want your kids sleeping in black beds??? You're being rather precious!! Grin

If they were a decent price and near enogh what you wanted i wouldn't care if they were painted in gold with multi-coloured sparkly sequins that glowed in the dark - the kids ain't going to care - they won't be looking at them for most of the time they'll be in them!

Aitch · 08/09/2010 17:16

well of course i am. if they were free i wouldn't mind, but i'm not paying for something i don't like, that would be a bit daft. Grin

True Grin

I am having bunk bed dilemas here atm. I do feel your pain. Have you looked at Amazon? They had some good deals on there.

Aitch · 08/09/2010 20:39

will do, thanks dee.

i went here www.kids-beds-online.com/ and am v happy. good beds, good price (tho not super cheap) and good service.

i also looked at argos, littlewoods etc. there's a lot of choice out there. does your head in...

IwishIwasmoreorganised · 08/09/2010 20:47

The black ones with lots of sparkly stickers on?

Aitch · 08/09/2010 20:50

oh yes thanks that does look good. although a bit Hmm at charging extra for the ladder. are they supposed to levitate up there? Wink

OP posts:
Aitch · 08/09/2010 20:51

the black ones are only about thirty quid cheaper than some nice ones from that site, so no, let us forget about the black ones...
