Do your children have themed bedrooms?

......and if so, what are they?

A friend of mine kitted her son's room out as Buzz Lightyear and he walked in and said he didnt like Buzz anymore!

This has made me think.

Ds wanted Buzz, then Scooby Doo (!!) and now Dinosaurs! I do think he would like a Dino room as he loves them a lot. I thought I would paint the room a plain colour and have plain curtains and then put up some posters of dinos and get him a quilt cover. Any other cheap dino ideas?

What rooms do your children have? Do you regret it or do they still like them?

i thin kwe have the same 'theme' as thomcat. the dd's have lots of pink thinmgs, from teh forest friends or enchanted forest stuff (i cant remember what it was called) range at NEXT. i got it all in the same, including borders. once i had tidied their room and made their beds i'll post pics up, i only finished it about 2 weeks ago.

moondog · 01/09/2005 13:58

Nah,hate themes. (Do I Want to make Disney at al even richer? Do I even want this stuff in my home? Er....no.)

My kids sleep in cream rooms, with venetian blinds, plain wooden furniture and cream carpets.
Even the bedding is plain and they both have queen sized iron beds which they can take with them when they leave home.
My precious carpets from Saudi and Turkey and various framed pictures complete the look.

caligula · 01/09/2005 14:03

Certainly not.

It entails an inordinate amount of parental effort.

I can just about manage to paint it plain. If they want pictures of Thomas, Buzz, Darth Vader, Che Guevara etc., that's fine, but I'm not doing blinds etc.

DS does have a Thomas duvet and pillow set which someone gave him as a present, but I don't really understand themes, tbh. Kids would ruin them anyway, by making Darth Vader the driver of Brum.

Dd has a princess themed room, plain pink walls, with small amount of stenstil disney princess, for just had he canopy to match, and will have quilt and curtains at christmas, rest of room is coloured easy to change if necc but Dd is disney princess obsesed and has been for 2 yrs. Ds willbe having a disney theme as well probably finding Nemo and Buzz Light year blue walls and transfers will work. Nemo bottom half Buzz top half of walls

mumbee · 01/09/2005 14:07

I love themed rooms and the Dc are really haappy with them

moondog · 01/09/2005 14:11

OK,you theme lovers...what do you do with all the stuff when your child tires of it in a year or two???

Tortington · 01/09/2005 14:54

i'm with caligula on this one. i dont really see the point. its a waste of money, too much effort and they will wreck it

ds still has the decor we did as his nursery -yellow paper with print of primary coloured wild animals and similar border and bedlinen in yellow/blue with animals. We've spent 4 years living with plain white in rented accommodation, have returned to his room and he is in no hiurry to change it , even though he is 7 now.

dd would love a Disny Princess room but we'll probably keep the walls plain pink and use accessories.

milosmum · 01/09/2005 16:05

my DS is 4.5yrs and has 2 walls with spiderman on them, 1 with the power rangers and the other is dinosaurs.... thought i d make sure he would nt grow out of it for a while... its all in a lovely blue theme and follows on very nicley even though its mixed...

What i did when changing it from a nursery to a "boys room" was keep the same paint just bought a Bob the Builder border- he soon got bored of Bob and because it was expensive, i just changed the border...

mumbee · 01/09/2005 16:15

As it is accessories pass them on to my niece (2yrs old) and future nephew (due nov) if not sell it on ebay seen a lot of products on there recently expected to get three or more years before they really tire of it.

we have murals in the childrens under fives room here. well i used to get paid to paint them for other people so thought I had better make the effort for mine. ds and dd1 def outgrown that kinda thing now tho..... dd2 just getting into it, and db wont have alot of choice

maddiemo · 01/09/2005 16:29

My children style their rooms themselves in what I believe is a 'Stig of the Dump' style.

compo · 01/09/2005 16:32

ds' room is yellow (as we didn't know what sex he would be) with some tacky Winnie the Pooh things stuck haphazardly on the wall that blinkin MIL got. Curtains are bright and cost about £2.50 in a D&A sale

dd1's room is lilac and dd2s is yellow - they were allowed to choose teh colour but neither allowed to have pink, dd1 has enough furry unicorns in there to theme Dorset

dd2 has soon to be 3 year old girl - yellow, half of it is playmobil and the rest is teasets

hercules · 01/09/2005 16:39

No but I like some of the animal and space themes mentioned here.

LilacLotus · 01/09/2005 16:39

DD's room has lilac walls and sheets, white furniture and felicity wishes pictures on the wall. and a sofa with a pink and purple throw on it. the curtains are dark purple.

Roobie · 01/09/2005 16:50

DDs room is the same as every other room in our house - white walls, wooden venetian blinds and cream carpets. We have made it quite girly though for her with pink duvet set, mobiles, bedside lamp etc - nothing that couldn't be changed at the drop of a hat.

trace2 · 01/09/2005 16:57

ds has yellow walls and cutains, then got thomas bed cover and sticker rounds what come off , then made some photos of thomas

Dd1 still has an undecorated room (bad mummy), but is having plain lilac walls with plain curtains and carpet. She is going to have it jazzed up with accesories so that if she gets bored I can change them.

Dd2 has a disney princess room, but tbh i don't like it it's too pink. She has pink walls and the princess border, curtains and quilt cover. Next time i'm not doing a theme.

Ds has blue walls with a car border at the top, plain navy blind and curtains and thats it.
