jamboure, why is it such a problem for us expats?! we can get Sky over here on the bontinent but we have to keep quiet about it, heavy penalties, etc. There are so many expats, it seems bloody stupid to cut us off.

Mine is from an extension socket.
How do you find out about the new packages?
I haven't had a letter or any thing?

SofiaAmes · 01/09/2005 02:07

It really depends on the installer. Other thing you can do is call around local installers and get a price to get them to install directly. It's a little more expensive, but you can get it how you want it.

cod check the pullout guide that came with the ?Sept? or maybe Aug Sky mag. You can/will be able to block all adult channels etc and put your own watershed on iirc. Sorry not at home so can't give you exact details but I htought of you when i saw it cos I know you had a run in with them before.

sansouci · 01/09/2005 22:42

I know that, jambourne! what i really want to understand is WHY? shouldn't anything that is broadcast be accessible to all? (am i opening a can of worms here?)

sansouci · 01/09/2005 22:42

sorry --- jamboure

One of our neighbours at the back has their dish on a pole at the end of their garden. (Their gable end faces S so that must have been a lifestyle choice, lol!)

I think the Europe thing must be about copyright or something like that - SKY only has the right to broadcast in GB/ROI?

Re the phoneline - dunno if jamboure or someone else has addressed this but ostensibly the reason is so that they can send updates down the line as and when. (Not sure if this is strictly true but ours is switched off at the mains at night and I do get ticked off for it if I ring with a problem.) Oh, and ours is connected to an extension.

jamboure · 02/09/2005 16:36

phoneline connection on multiroom is to recieve reduced subscription on 2nd box and so sky know also where the boxes are.

It is also part of a std installation for 1 yr box must be connected to landline to rewcieve incoming and outgoing calls, regular software updates/downloads to boxes and use of interactive services.

however if you are having 1 box ONLY and have no phone connection you can arrange a no phone install for £25 one of payment but you get no interactive services.

sommit to do with broadcasting legalities as to why only viewing allowed in uk/roi
