We have Sky because our TV reception is so bad here. We don't have a dish because it is a big shared one for all apartments. In past we never had a choice where it went though. DH recently called to cancel Sky Sports and we had no problems at all. I know that Sky do seem quite desperate at the moment and when people phone to cancel completely they tend to start offering lots of incentives to stay. Can be quite insistent, but in our experience to date never nastily so, and if they did become so we'd just put phine down and cancel in wirting there and then.

They have always been fantastic with us TBH. A couple of times the money hasn't been in dp's bank when they try and collect it and they always send a lovely letter telling us so and just take it the next month instead.

The dish isn't big either.

Think they hve a lot of competiton on now with the cable channels, esp as they offe =r the broadband. Mind you, having seen a few people's cable I am glad we aren't in a cable area - didn't look very good TBH, even if cheaper.

agree with cod - Sky + is great.
Not tried to cancel anything but they've always been OK when we've had to contact them.

I switched to sky 3 ish years ago from cable and it was the best decision ever. We never ever ever have trouble with our reception and I never need customer service because nothing ever goes wrong. I just recently cancelled sky sports and had no trouble at all.
A suggestion about the dish... it doesn't have to go on the front or back of the house. You can put it at the base of the chimney stack (at peak of roof) and then it's not really too visible.
They then run cable into loft and around house.

Another satisfied customer here. We had a few teething problems with our sky+ box and they were so helpful, sent people out time after time and all were lovely. Haven't tried to cancel anything but would agree with Hulababy if they get nasty (just make sure you got their name first!!) Sky + is the bestest thing in the world too !!!!

fairydust · 31/08/2005 00:25

if you live in a house then you have to have a sky dish there's no other way to recieve it

i think the box is connected to the phone line so they can check what pay per view stuff you've ordered in the past month eg box office movies. it also lets you use the full range of interactive facilities.

re the dish - it will have to be in line of sight of the satellite. thats what determines whether it has to go on the front, side or back of your property. the sky deal includes "standard installation" ie in line of sight of the satellite and in the easiest postition for the installer to get at. it may be that if you want it placed more discretely, eg on a chimney stack, it will cost a bit more.

we have the full sky package and periodically i cancel bits on the basis that its expensive. we always go back up to the full package tho so i guess its worth it! i'm defintely going to get sky+ at some point soon.

they've never been nasty about me fiddling around with our subscription package.
