Now, now Tubbs listen here we want no trouble, this is a local website for local people. Doris are you a no tail?

Dorisday · 09/08/2001 20:21

Oh boy am I excited now! Wasn't sure whether this website would attract other no tails. My 3 year old son Oliver can do a fantastic impression of Papa Lazarou, 'Want some pegs Dave?!!)Have you seen the live show? Give us a ring love , go on love , you're a big 'un but you're a good 'un , go on love give us a ring!! My next door neighbour is incapable of uttering a sentence without reciting a catchphrase from LOG. She came round today ,as her water is off and asked if she could use the loo -I was obliged to tell her that we don't pass solids in the upstairs loo on a Thursday.

I'm really scared of Papa Lazarou! And the "local ...(fill in your own) for local people" has become part of everyday language in our house.
Okey dokey pig in a pokey, got to go now.

Don't worry Star, we won't go far.

Dorisday · 11/08/2001 08:02

It's nude day today and due to breastfeeding in the cold air my nipples are like bullets.

Riv · 11/08/2001 10:07

What is League of gentleman?

Rhiannon · 11/08/2001 14:26

Riv, it's a comedy series, now a cult, very, very sick! Tubbs and Edward are the stars who run a local shop for local people and woe betide you if you are not - local!

Alexsmum · 15/08/2001 22:01

Dh and I were very sad and went to find Hadfield...the town that is Royston vasey. Its very small and not nearly as bustling as it looks on LoG. It has a local cafe for local people and of course the butchers that sells special sausages! I went to the same drama college as LoG although not at the same time and it really reminds me of all the little villages roundabout where the locals are very local.
Favourite expression from it has to be ' Madame Palm and her five lovely daughters!!!' I agree Papa lazrou is scary!!

Dorisday · 16/08/2001 21:22

alexsmum-so you really are local aren't you! i'm relatively local -living in halifax-don't s'pose you were there the same time as the log -cool claim to fame if you were - aha -we don't say the 'f' word in our house!(that is frog, to none locals!)

I was driving down the A3 the other day to visit a friend in Petersfield. (Not quite as one horse a town as RV I know - but remember, I'm from the big smoke). Still, nearly crashed the car laughing on spotting sign in middle of nowhere stating "local shops". (Think this might have been a "location joke" - ie: you had to be there to appreciate it.... ah well.)
On another tip, went to see the stage version of LOG. Slept through most of the second half - partly because I was knackered and find that dark rooms do that to me, but mainly because I was bored rigid. It was all so "aren't we sooo very clever - don't you know we've been to university". Nowhere near as funny as the tv/radio shows. Very disappointing - and it was blooming expensive too.

Dorisday · 17/08/2001 21:13

Willow2-I really enjoyed the show version-First night out since babe was born! Although i did fel a bit lost in parts-with historical references etc. the bits i liked best were the actual characters, as i've only seen the tv show (not radio) -particularly liked the herr lipp bit andnearly cried when tubbs came on!-alexsmum-forgot to mention we too ,had been to Hadfield. It didn't make much sense really , but recently foung the log site(web) and it actually has a map -showing you where everything is filmed. The local shop is a prop apparently-gutted about that!!

Dorisday, so you like Wayne's World too! How about Austin Powers baby? DH has just bought the Wayne's World boxed set, how sad!

Alexsmum · 18/08/2001 08:23

No i wasn't there at the same time as them unfortunately. They graduated in about 91 I think and that was the year I started my degree. But lets face it if they had been there at the same time they would just have been some other theatre arts students speaking very loudly in the refectory!!! Enunciating...Darling!!!!
Best episode everyone? Mine has to be the first one where aunty val is showing Benjamin around the house and she opens the key cupboard!!! And also the little chat in the bathroom where she announces that 'semen is such a persistent stain'.
Brilliant!!!!!

Dorisday · 18/08/2001 21:52

shagtastic baby yeah!!!!!!!shame to say it, but haven't seen 2 yet . am saving a night to get vid when can keep eyes open-should be watching it now i gueess-rhiannon/tubbs.are they really like that alexsmum? i longed to go to some kind of drama thing -but i'm too not like that and a bit too nervous/shy-too many girlies at my school were this way inclined and they annoyed me intensely! my 'sister-in-law' went to bishop grot -lincoln and it would appear it was like that there too!!lots of bonnie langford types?
like the tubbs conversation with an historian/journalist-he asks ' do you have any memories?' tubbs says'yes, i have 2-as she exposes her boobs. and i love any herr lipp quote-something to the effect of'i like you to come for me in the morning , justin'. the problem with me is my memory is totally shit since having the babes and it wasn't much cop before that either - i really all the episodes on tape! -oh, and naturally 'you're my wife now ',' any pegs ,dave?'but i cannot stomach , mr chinnery the vet' -particularly when he put the wrong dog down. the only one that really obviously sticks out in my mind is the xmas special -that one was very dark and macabre-wondrous . anyone a fan of dracula the movie (if you ignore the bad english accents of course!)?
Willow2 -had similar experience today when i saw a sign on the A1 for BABS CAFE !!giggled internally to that!

IDismyname · 19/08/2001 18:50

Ahh, beware, Willow2! I reckon that those there "local shops" were in fact MY "local shops"!!

Willow2 · 19/08/2001 19:47

Fms - no offence meant. You live in a very beautiful part of the world.... it was just the sign made me laugh!

IDismyname · 19/08/2001 21:31

Willow2,
No offence taken, but if it's where I think it is, take a trip down there one day... we all have buck teeth and wear headscarves!!

Willow2 · 20/08/2001 11:02

Fms - yeah, but do you get your boobs out at the drop of a hat too? (Suppose it depends if you are still breastfeeding - mine were out so much I sometimes forgot to put them away. Gave the postie quite a shock I can tell you).

Riv · 20/08/2001 12:29

Dorisday - thanks for telling me when I went to the www page it looked a bit wierd (on the first entry) so I thought I would ask before I went any further!!

IDismyname · 20/08/2001 21:28

Willow2
Yeah, mine drop out occasionally when I'm not looking... Best not drop in to those "local Shops".

Dorisday · 22/08/2001 20:44

Sorry - had to resurrect this thread1

Anyone else's Thursday evenings now a joyous event due to League of Gentlemen? DH and I are sooooo happy this is back on again (that probably says more about us than I'd care to think about.....).

Love the GP (mine is like this sometimes) and pregnant taxi driver and Pauline is wonderful (a bloke playing a woman dressed as a man proposing to a man playing a man dressed as a woman - brilliant) - what will Nicky-love say when Ross tells him!

Any other fans or am I the only saddo (sicko?)

Titchy

Willow2 · 01/10/2002 23:12

Sicko - I've had a promise of a pink pentel but I need more time.....
