high bed/cabin bed

i have been looking for a high bed for ds8. his room is very small so this will give us more floor space.

have you brought one you can recommend - they are very expensive so want to get it right. thinking white/navy or pine rather than metal. although these are cheaper.

not sure to be a good make second hand one or a new cheaper one.

thanks

Just a thought - has he actually tried sleeping in one? Being so high up they get really quite warm in them - a friend spent wasted £800 on one for her DS who refused to sleep in it cos he got too hot!

thanks we had one in our last flat = as it was only a 1 bed place i had the double bed on the bottom and he had the top.

Both my boys have them - cabin beds - my younger ds one was from M&S and came with desk, cupboard which fits under then end and chest of drawers, wepaid aroudn £400 whih included the mattress.

Older ds one came from John Lewis although they didnlt do it when we came to buy for ds2.

Both solid pine beds.

Love our cabin beds.

Try looking for Julian Bower. I am looking just now so haven't seen them 'in the flesh' but they look pretty good. It will be a job shoe horning it into DSs room! I did see a site where they actually sent drivers who put the thing up for you (hooray). Much better than the site which states that they drop the boxes off at then end of your drive/in your lobby. Check the delivery detauls!

thank you both - will have a look now. its so hard when you cant see them in the flesh. but then i'm being lazy as i could trawl round the shops. thanks again

Maybe Ikea? My sister got one from Argos and it is quite nice.

My DS has had this bed since he was 8 - it's been really good as he has a small room. We didn't buy direct from Thuka though - we found it much cheaper on the net elsewhere just by googling the product details. Thuka do lots of other really good cabin / high beds too.

just bought this for DD1
waiting for delivery....

amidaiwish · 24/08/2010 11:17

this!

We bought a high sleeper for dd1 as she had a small room. We bought it from Bensons Beds, very reasonable price, had a desk and single futon sofa/chair underneath it. BUT ... Please make sure your ds will have enough room between the bed and the ceiling if you go for one of these - we didn't think about this when we bought dds and although she loved it, she couldn't really sit up properly to read in it - I couldn't even straighten my back on it when I was changing the sheets as I kept banging my head! She's now got a normal bed in her room!

kando · 24/08/2010 17:58

Oh dear. Sorry, I seem to have killed your thread Blush

cornsillky · 24/08/2010 18:01

we goit one from aspace this oneI think.

kylesmybaby · 24/08/2010 20:40

kando thanks for that will check the height thing.

ikea have nice ones but you then have to buiy the bits that go below i.e desk seperately so have to try and match everything.

ideally i want a chair/sofa bed underneath for him to sit and watch tv. and may be a desk at a push.

there sr soo many on the net and its har to icture whjat they are really ilke.

the aspace ones are the best i found really. those mentioned here are the lower cabin type beds i think.

if money wass't such an object then we woudl love to have the warwick high sleeper in the dark blue. but even when you spend the £900 it doesnt come with the chair or the mattress with bumps the price up to £1228.

I'm really pleased with ours. It was £££ with the cupboards added in underneath but it'll last for ages (hopefully!)and looks great.
