I am trying to create a database for my addresses but even settig one up without their wizzard, it still won't let me have a section for post code that allows me to imput letters and numbers - just numbers (like the US zip code I presume). Similarly, It won't let me imput any more than the designated number of spaces for the phone numbers (the uk have longer dialing codes than th US)

I don't understand how I can change what it will allow mr to do. Can anyone help?

Have you made the database in design view? If so what did you pick as your data types? Text should let you put in postcodes?

anchovies · 27/08/2005 18:12

Do you want to email it to me (blank of course!) and I'll just put the fields in for you?

oh god, i used to use access all the time, but i'm on maternity leave & my brain has atrophied....

anyway, from the dim recceses of my memory, you need to create a new blank database. it should open a new blank table automatically (this is in access 2003, can't remember about older versions). it'll show you the design view. name your field in the 1st column then tab onto the next column - data type. it'll give you a drop down menu with different types of data options. text should let you enter letters & numbers in a postcode. actually, i'd use text for everything. when you've finished designing your table, save & close it. open it again, & then you can enter your data.

i hope this makes sense...

oh good, i agree with anchovies!

Thankyou both. Have created a table in deign view and saved it. I hope I can now go back and create a form from that.
