Where to buy £200 of booze, cheap, for 40th in SE London

Help! It's dp's 40th birthday this Saturday and we are having a party. Problem is, the guy who was going to do the bar has left us in the lurch. I need to get hold of some cheap booze quick fast - cans of lager and wine mostly. Also, where can you buy those plastic cups - we will need loads!

I think places like Aldi/Lidles sell cheap wines and beers.

lastorders.com if it still exists

pindy · 23/08/2005 21:10

Makro is good if you have one nearby

Lidl in brixton do cheap beers.
majestic wine?

Cha · 23/08/2005 21:12

We have a Lidl's down the road - but are they really cheaper than a cash & carry kind of off licence? Not heard of Mackro - is it in the same vein as Lidl's? Will try out the lastorders website!

Hi sweetie (haven't seen you for ages); we got our booze for DP's 40th at Majestic.

spidermama · 23/08/2005 21:13

Dutch beer from Lidl in Brixton. Can't remember the name but it's cheap and quite nice.

Cha · 23/08/2005 21:17

Hi, been lurking around but not posting much. Someone else told me about Majestic. I had a look at their website but they didn't seem to have a lot of beer, which is what we need really. Might well check out the Lidl's in Brixton but dp will NOT enter there after the last time we went... Long story.

My dp works for a drinks company and even with his discount, their stuff in the cash and carry still isn't as cheap as places like Asda and Lidls.

lunavix · 24/08/2005 11:18

makro is cheap, it's like a warehouse but you need a card to get in. It's free to get but you need to have one through your business or be self employed I think.

motherinferior · 24/08/2005 11:35

Cha, I'm a business if that helps

soapbox · 24/08/2005 14:27

Cha - round about bank holidays sainbury's and tescos usually do some half price beer offers and often wine too. They are sometimes available only on their websites so might well be worth a look!

bambi06 · 24/08/2005 14:32

theres a makro near to asda in purley way off beddington lane, croydon

faithnirvana · 24/08/2005 14:52

There is a catering company called Dentons in Clapham (right opposite Clapham North tube station). It is mainly wholesale (not open on Saturdays) but sells dirt cheap large amounts of plastic cups, plates, forks and anything else you could need for a party.

Cha · 24/08/2005 17:23

That's interesting about Asda and Lidls. I need to do an Asda trip to get balloons and plastic cups etc, as well as party bags for ds's 2nd birthday two days later... Aaaghhhh! Maybe I'll just get all the booze there? Thanks loads for the offer about the Makro place MI but I think it's getting too tight and stressful.[stress icon]
