Rather dull toaster and kettle thread - will open with a joke to grab your interest

Q: How many Anglicans does it take to change a lightbulb?
A: Change? (IndigoDavei, Guardian)

And another joke, which I recognise is more of a pun than a joke, but I laughed

I went to the zoo the other day and all I saw was a small dog. It was a shihtzu. (simon3862, Guardian)

Right then, toasters and kettles. I need a long slot toaster and I'm considering the following, Dualit, snazzy expensive Magimix or ordinary expensive Magimix. I'm not so keen on the look of Dualits, they seem a bit over-styled to me, but I've heard good things about their toasting ability. I haven't heard much about Magimix.

Am I right in thinking that Dualit kettles are not particularly good? I might match a Dualit toaster with this Magimix kettle instead of a Dualit one.

like your joke but I'm lacking in toaster and kettle experience/enthusiasm

DoNotFeedMeBiscuits · 25/07/2010 11:18

You drew me in with your promise of jokes. I will now steal them as my own.

I have a dualit toaster, one of the two short slot ones, so not exactly the same as the model you linked to. It's very good, have had it for 3 and a bit years (wedding present) and had no problems with it at all. We have a matching kettle and it's still going strong, again no problems at all with it, although we are in a soft water area so kettles tend to do well here!

I shall now close with a joke:

knock knock.
Who's there?
The interrupting sheep.
The interrupting sheep Wh....BAAAAAA.

Are you me? I have the dualit toaster, which I love and and will be going out this very afternoon to buy the magimix kettle. It is a replacement for my beautiful alessi bluebird kettle, which sadly now sprays boiling water round the kitchen.

Particularly like the shitzu pun

So nobody thinks it's worth paying twice as much for the snazzy Magimix toaster then (it's glass you know)?

Magimix toaster is gorgeous. But seriously? Are you really willing to spend that much on a toaster? It's just going to get full of crumbs and sticky butter fingers marks you know.

MummyBerryJuice · 25/07/2010 12:19

We have the short slot Dualit and I can vouch for it's excellent toasting ability.

OK, I'm going to order the Dualit from John Lewis now. If anyone has the glass Magimix and wants to annoy me then wait 10 mins until the order goes through and then come and tell me that it makes sublime toast.
