At an impasse with DH regarding contraception

I'm currently in a difficult situation with my husband where we can't seem to agree on what contraception to use. We are in our mid-40s with 2 DCs. Neither of us are planning on having any more children. He doesn't want to have a vasectomy and I don't want to be stuck on the pill, or hormonal contraception generally, until menopause hits. So we have been stuck using condoms. We recently had something of a mishap however. We hadn't had sex for about a month, and DCs were both out of the house for a few hours, so we ended up taking advantage of the opportunity and having sex. It was a nice, mutually very satisfying shag which I think we both needed. We were both really turned on, then we both got carried away and he didn't use a condom. This resulted in me having to rush out to get emergency contraception, also known as the morning-after pill. It was the first time I've ever used it my life, and I'm not looking to repeat the experience. I was a hormonal mess for about 2 days after taking it.

Have spoken to DH but he is adamant that he won't have the snip. He has said that he has seen too many horror stories online about it, such as men who are in constant pain for months after having it, or having difficulties urinating or getting an erection. I myself don't particularly want a tubal ligation (which is much more invasive than a vasectomy would be for him), so our options seem to be either me staying on the pill, using condoms (which neither of us like) or just not having sex. After the aforementioned mishap with condoms, I don't know if they are going to be a reliable option going forward. I am wondering if anyone has been in a similar situation regarding contraception.

Me and my husband have used pull out for 15 years. Only time I got pregnant is when we decided to leave it in.

Never been remotly and issue

The pull out method does take into account the pre cum ( which can make you pregnant). Nothing to do with self control.

There’s an option of a copper coil too, it’s not hormonal.

I had vasectomy 40 yrs ago, and yes, we had a lot of worry-free sex since then. However, I have the impression that it has rendered me impotent (in my late 70s) and if I had my time again I probably would use condoms until it was no longer necessary.
And there is the extra benefit of No Mess.

I don't think there is any evidence to suggest that a vasectomy can or will affect ability to sustain an erection. Indeed, the medical aspects suggest that it won't as the tubes affected don't deal with the hormonal aspects of libido.

As a 63 year old who is not as loud and proud as I once was, I suggest it's age related.

I love my copper coil, hormone free and once in it stays for 10 years. Just had my 3rd changed out, I’m 46.

I was ‘snipped’ 11 years ago at the age of 36. It was a ‘mild tug’ at the procedure and many years of carefree shagging ever since - the best thing I ever did after deciding I didn’t want more children. Someone has mentioned earlier no more mess - that is not the case here and everything feels exactly the same as before without the worry
