Tried to spoon (sex) with new partner last night and could not align and make it work. Is there some weird science to this that I don't know about? Same with face to face - just could not align. Feel like a failure as he suggested both of those positions and I could not make it work.

Everyone’s bodies align differently .
Face to Face spoon can work for some and not others .
Doggy spoon as I call it should always work but it’s not always like a perfect spoon , angles are in play

"should always work" I know...we couldn't line up right, it got quite stressful because it seemed like it should be easy. Not to put the pressure on the man, but I can't see behind me, so I guess they have to do the "aligning", which includes telling you how to position?

sorry for being direct @rubberduck68 I am not trying to be rude. just wondering what makes it difficult. does he have a huge belly or a smaller p? again not trying to be rude just wondering about these things. could be the answer.

Do you lay on your lef or right sides? Try the other.

When he is behind you how high are your knees?
He needs to be slightly under you not with your spines parallel. He would need to extend his arm to hold your shoulder.

He has a dad bod, not huge belly but a bit of one, and not a smaller p at all. I just don't know what was going on back there, as I couldn't see, just kept aiming and not happening!

My left I think, could swap around. He wasn't under me. I do think that he should be lining up, I can't see behind me what's going on, I lifted knees pretty high as it felt instinctual, didn't help.

Try him starting off at something closer to a 90 degree angle to you with your knees up. Once he’s in you can move to a more intimate closer spoons position (which personally I love!).

spoons is just one position hubby and a can’t do, he can just about get the tip in but the angle is all wrong and then he can’t really thrust, he looks like a seal flapping around( that’s what he calls it), we’ve been together 13 years and have given up on any spoon style position. There is no reason to feel like a failure, some positions are just not compatible

Actually had same thought recently and it’s nothing to do with penis size unless he’s small… but it can just be purely down to bodies not aligning in the same way and also the bed if it has slight dips etc. when we do it in this position I always need to be lower down than my wife to make it work and my head almost level with her boobs and it normally ends up with her having one leg bent and the sole of that foot flat on the bed (quite hard to explain but hopefully you get the idea) or we sometimes end up in sort of a laying down doggy position (it’s probably got another name)

How different we all are. It was the favourite for me and the Ex. It was a recommendation for a comfortable way during pregnancy. Usually start Missionary so fully relaxed when we change It can be gentle and romantic or a good seeing to!
As @Rhealdeal describes he must be underneath her at the beginning.
