Doxy or Hitachi

I’ve always been a huge fan of Doxy wands but in recent years the build quality has been appalling. They seem to break very easily… perhaps it’s due to overuse! Looks like they’re under new ownership now so things might improve.

I’m considering buying a Hitachi wand instead but the spec suggests it’s less powerful. I want something that really packs a punch.

Any opinions gratefully welcome…

Have you looked at the Black & Decker range...?

I’m not THAT much of a masochist 😉

Perhaps add a good read? :-)

How did they break 😳?

GigiAnnna · 19/10/2025 17:50

I love my Doxy, never tried the Hitachi. Mine did break after about 6 months of use ( think I dislodged the motor dropping it off the bed) but they sent me a new one and 2 years later it's still going strong with no problems.

How did they break 😳?

First one - the head worked loose and rattled about making a hell of a noise. No amount of tightening the fitting would fix it.

Second one - buttons stopped working. Would randomly turn on and off, or lock itself.

Third one - wouldn’t charge even when I bought a replacement lead.

🙄

Get the plug in one that doesn't need charging. So much more power.

Blimey! I’ve got a plug in one same as @GigiAnnna and it’s a sturdy piece of kit. Should be for the price though!

I’ve had both the corded and cordless Doxys over the years and can’t say I noticed a difference in power. Prefer the cordless for fun when away from home. Perhaps I’ll get one of each!

My doxy is still going strong after 18 months of near daily use. The head is a bit rattly now, now worried a replacement isn’t going to be as good

PinotPony · 23/10/2025 12:36

I’ve gone with the plug in Doxy Die Cast but bought it from Love Honey as Doxy seem to be out of business for now.

Really?! That’s so sad!

Aishabibi · 23/10/2025 13:59

How can they go out of business… as far as I’m concerned they’re providing a public benefit. I always get my toys etc from Lovehoney due to the NHS discount
