I’ve been single for a many, many years, scarred after a horrible divorce.
This past year I’ve been on a dating site, nearly 50 and thought I should try it. I’ve had a short term relationship, sex wise, all fine, that relationship ended.
I have since met someone else, had our first intimate evening a few days ago. I have since been really sore & itchy. Today I feel like I need to have a wee all of the time. I’m wondering if this is because I've been without someone for so long.
I’ve bought cream for the itching, wondering if I need to go to the doctors?

Did you have protected sex? Sounds like you may have a UTI

Jc2001 · 11/09/2025 09:37

Yes you should definitely go to the doctor's. It's probably just a UTI but it won't get better on its own without antibiotics. Don't leave it

Chiming in , even with protected sex you could have a uti. But if you’ve had unprotected sex I would get myself and sti at my nearest sexual health clinic as well.

To have immediate symptoms I'd say a UTI or cystitis. Keep drinking water and it should flush itself out within a day or 2 if it's a UTI. If it doesn't, go to the doctors.
But defo worth getting a check up if you've had it unprotected.

Definitely sounds like a UTI. See your GP. They may do further tests, apart from a urine, if you tell them you’ve had unprotected intercourse with a new partner.

PS. You can get a UTI from oral sex and finger play too (even without full intercourse).

And toys - ask me how I know 😂

The only two times I’ve ever had a UTI.

I'm very susceptible to UTI's. Sounds like this to me. It happens more when I haven't been very sexually active for a while.
UTI's are not sexually transmitted, although safe sex is still important for many other reasons.

I usually help myself with some cranberry products. Pharmacy's have some over the counter options. I also chug bottles of cranberry juice and that seems to do the trick. If it doesn't pass after 48 hours, it usually means I need antibiotics and need to see a doctor.
