Help me make my poor old vulva beautiful again

I've shaved it for years mainly for doing sports. Every few days, and no one was seeing it, so it didn't matter if it was stubbly or whatever.
New partner now and I'm suddenly very aware of the state of it.
Shaving more often and sometimes it's ok, sometimes it's red and bumpy and extremely unattractive.
Currently I am:

  • using a proper bikini area razor
  • using hair conditioner following a tip on here
  • exfoliating
  • using mild body lotion or coconut oil afterwards
It's still not smooth or nice looking!

Any suggestions?!

Your vulva is great already! Don’t under estimate yourself OP, she is beautiful. They are all beautiful, be they smooth or hairy or something in between.

Looking at my naked self in the mirror l can’t really remember what l looked like with pubic hair. Over the years l have gone full circle several times between more or less daily shaving, using Veet weekly, and currently 4 weekly Hollywood Waxes (smoothest but downside is the regrowth and the cost); if you find a good beautician stick with her.

For me all 3 options are more comfy and far less sweaty than a bush.

@SirRaymondClench
I’ve read the instruction manual, which says that it doesn’t work on blonde hair—this is what has been holding me back from taking the financial plunge of investing in one, as my leg hair is blonde. May I ask whether your leg hair is dark?

Yes I am olive skinned with dark hair. Someone needs to invent something that works with blonde or red hair. They would become a billionaire in no time!

@SirRaymondClench exactly!! Can't believe it just won't work for me,gutted

Let your pubes grow out for a few months and look after your skin in that time.
Moisturise.
Then get waxed.
It'll probably be uncomfortable the first couple of times, but from then on, you'll never go back to a razor.
(I've tried waxing and sugaring and I cant tell the difference.)

TryingAgain7651 · 09/07/2025 21:54

@mnmnddddd thats what i was starting to think.. but will it really take months????

I can only speak for my crotch ...
I only get waxed once every 2-3 months or so, based on re-growth, having relied on waxing for about 15-20yrs. When I've had a break (eg Lockdown) and had to rely on razors, I've hated it for the reasons you mention and, if that's been your goto, I'd guess you'll want to give yourself some comfort time before getting hair ripped out
I say "ripped", not to put you off, but to be honest about the reality. The first coulpe of times are not fun. Ask your friends to recommend a waxer, be kind to your skin, and stick with it. I promise it's worth it and if your partner doesn't lavish your pussy with attention, there's something else going on.
Enjoy! ❤️❤️❤️

Can I ask whether this Philips Lumea IPL hurts for all those recommending it?

No. It feels a bit hot I guess. I do find I have to turn it down on more sensitive areas though 😂

lesgalettes · 11/07/2025 19:21

I've got dark hair and pale skin but the Lumea didn't work for my bikini area, only worked for my legs etc

Do you know why?

I did find it was least successful with my armpits. But I decided to try switching to epilating rather than shaving and for some reason the ipl started to work there too. Although still the least successful area.

I wonder if salons find sometimes it doesn’t work when it should too? It’s fascinating/annoying!!

lesgalettes · 12/07/2025 14:01

@Gymbunny2025 no I don't know why, although I did some research online and saw that this is quite common. It only worked for the bits at the side of my legs (tmiBlush). I'm assuming salon treatments would be more powerful. I might have to go for laser at a salon at some point.
