So a bit embarrassing. But a bit of background. So when I was 20 (now 30) I slept with the 2nd person I've ever slept with in my life. And I ended up coming out in this awful rash down below and went to the doctors and was told it was a herpes outbreak type 1, it was an awful time of my life. Since I've been 20 I had one more outbreak a year later then for some reason this morning I've woke up and I have a slight outbreak. I'm not sure what's brought it on, I guess I have felt a bit run down and tired recently. I've never usually had any bother with it I even birthed a child and she's now 5.
I guess the reason for this post has this ever happened anyone else? I have slept with 5 people my whole life and there's some people out there that have slept with 100 + people and they've never had a thing in their life 🤣 anyone else experience with this?

Hi there.

try not to feel bad about yourself or get stressed by this.

HSV-1 is present in the vast majority of adults, often being spread by oral contact like kissing.

it can manifest as genital herpes if, for instance, someone with a cold sore performs oral sex.

while outbreaks can be low points, they usually become very rare events, meaning that you can live quite happily, with nothing at all to worry about.

Thanks! Yeah it was when I slept with one guy and it must of been through oral!

My wife has this. We've been together 20+ yrs. I had no clue, and to this day I don't really know if she had a clue either, until late into pregnancy with child no.1. It then presented and she told me after a docs visit, this was a decade after meeting. I didn't question it, I don't believe she would have cheated on me, but I'll ultimately never know 100% as it's confusing to think a decade went by without it showing or us knowing. She had only been with two others prior to me and I was told it would have come from one of them with a cold sore. It's never re-appeared and to my knowledge has never been passed to me. So apart from the un-certainty of trust on my part, which will stay with me forever, it has never affected life and we're still happily married. But given she only had 2 prior partners, she was probably more unlucky than you

Appearance of herpes within a long relationship does not necessarily mean that one partner has cheated - herpes can lie dormant for many years, only surfacing at some stressful point in life.

it really is much ado about nothing.

yea I know, I did my research! I'm 99.99% sure it's not the case. We were about to have a baby so it wasn't something I ever questioned

I was expecting a post about Cadbury’s chocolates and was intrigued as to how they related to sex 🤣

Don't worry about it, my wife gets cold sores every now and again from something she picked up years ago. It's just an unfortunate occurrence that goes away soon enough.

PashaMinaMio · 25/01/2025 22:26

Take zinc tablets regularly for a year of two.
I never get cold sores (on my lips) now after years of suffering, so might work for genital herpes too? Take it regularly.
Worth a try.

Hi hun please check out herpes org website a uk site , alot of scaremongering online and very dated information and the forums include a lot of uneducated people who think you should stay celibate for life even tho they probably have it themselves! x

xpc316e · 24/02/2025 16:50

My former wife had what I now know to be genital herpes. After about ten years with my current partner I had my first outbreak and for both of us it was a monogamous relationship, so my ex was the source of my infection. My partner has never had an outbreak, but realistically I must have infected her. She is a nurse, knows about herpes and was really chilled about my status.

I cannot recall when I last had an outbreak; they usually appear when my immune system is already compromised by an infection, such as flu. Herpes is far more common than most people think and the vast majority of those who are infected are unaware of their status. Sadly, there is a great deal of stigma attached to being herpes positive and having it need not be a big deal.

There is an interesting Instagram account run under the name of Safe Slut by a woman in New York who is herpes positive and an educator about the condition.

OP I empathise. I’m in a long term relationship and about a year into it I had a herpes outbreak. I had no idea, I was mortified and worried what my partner might think. That was 8 years ago and I think I’ve had 2 outbreaks since. It’s much more common than you think, it’s just so mortifying when it happens to you.

My understanding is it can only be spread by coming into contact with the open sores, so no need to worry about your daughter.
