Ive been seeing my partner for about 10 months now and he has said on a few occasions he would like to use handcuffs but then when I broached him about it he said it was a joke. We went out with one of his friends and he said that my partner liked the things in 50 shades of grey for a joke. I can’t work out if it’s a joke or if he’s really into that. I offered to get handcuffs but he said no he wasn’t into that

I can't stand people who make "jokes" like this, as if they are testing the water but too frightened to do it. Confidence is everything if you are going for this sort of play, even if only at the milder end.

Either try and sit him down and get a serious conversation out of him, including obviously limits, safe words etc or call his bluff in bed in one night and whip out something to tie HIM up with, and see how he reacts.

Agree with @MySXforumnn, be confident and call his bluff ..... you can be sensitive I'm sure; if he's uncomfortable you now know where your "present" limits are .... go from there.
Good luck.

And, from a former cop, practical advice.

Keep the key in a place you can find it when needed?

I've seen couples rock up at a nick asking for a key and or have to be cut out by the Fire service

Tends to ruin 'the moment'

😉🤣

Not all handcuffs need keys. And if you don't want to splash out on cuffs that you might never use, or you want to be less confrontational, try a silk scarf / neck tie / pair of stockings.

Excellent advice! Silk scarf particularly

@Rita44 . I’d been looking at some handcuffs on hot octopus in December which were key free silicone ones as have had a previous incident with metal ones with a key. ☝️

Just had a look now and they have been reduced to £5 in the xmas sale £10 with pp. just bought a set.

Thanks again

Some years ago there was a TV programme called London’s Burning. Just saying! Anything with metal catches with or without a key can jam. A&E are busy enough.

If you really want the restraint thing, buy a roll of ribbon.

But only one that you don't mind cutting up if the knots get pulled too tight. Oh, and keep scissors handy too
