Man here. I want to explain why I love Mumsnet. Obviously I'm not a Mum. But I am a devoted Husband and Father.
My childhood was extremely difficult and I have suffered for years in dealing with trauma caused by a psychologically abusive relationship with my Dad. Years later (late 40s) there are scars that wont heal. And because of this reason I have found it impossible to talk to my male friends about anything personal, anything intimate or sensitive. I have lots of good friends but some years ago I found that I could only really open up to female friends. I've been married for 26 years. My wife is the love of my life (don't worry, she's on Mumsnet too), and over the years I have found it so much easier to talk to her friends about anything of a 'sensitive' nature. However, not everyone wants to talk to their friends Husband about sexual matters and yours and their marriages. If ever I wanted to discuss anything of that nature (sharing is cathartic) I would have to wait for the right opportunity and volume of wine consumed. My wife and I love to talk about intimate matters and we have an exceptional sex life. She's my whole world and I would be nothing without her!!! But its nice to get others take on certain matters or even just to enjoy a discussion.
Almost all other sites with discussion threads are just weird people looking to send creepy messages. I'm not one of them. I just like chatting about things that I cant chat about on a daily basis with anyone, and with people, male or female, who really understand. Its good for my mind and soul and really I'm looking forward to sharing.
Sorry for the essay. Hope you're all having a great week
