Withdrawal method

Looking for experiences from those who use the withdrawal method.

I have read that it is as effective as using condoms when done correctly.

Personally, I used this method for 3 years and then when we tried for 2nd baby, it happened straight away. We have been using this method for the last 4 years and have had no issues.

I know this is absolutely not the case for everyone but looking to hear both positive and negative stories!!

Where did you read that, the Daily Mail?

buma · 06/07/2024 14:26

Whether the stats are correct or not, I'm asking for people's experiences.

It has worked for me for years. I've got pregnant first time I've tried to with both of my girls, so the withdrawal method has obviously worked for me.

The Daily Mail actually says it doesn't work as well as other methods, so no, I didn't read it there.

Used it between first and second child. Stopped using it when I got pregnant with the second (due to a failure in withdrawal method!) I was a week away from ovulation too. Went back to condoms.

GigiAnnna · 06/07/2024 17:14

I used to do this but when I was around my fertile stage I used condoms for back up. It's easy for me to know when that stage is as I've always had a regular cycle. It can also help to use ovulation tests to avoid this phase. However, I would not use this method if the idea of a baby would be a disaster, only if you were open to the idea, despite it not being strictly planned.

Been using it since my youngest child was born 13 years ago. As long as you know when ejaculation is about to occur and can whip it out in time, it is very effective.
So far!

I prefer withdrawal with my husband so I can see the result as it were. But with other guys I may jet them stay on, with a condom, if they are larger than my hub.

Old joke:

Q. What do you call couples who use the withdrawal method of contraception?

A. Parents.

AliceMcK · 07/07/2024 01:11

A man who worked for my brother was on his 6th kid last time I saw him. Him and his wife didn’t believe in contraception, they used the withdrawal method. He was only young, about 24/25.

Behappyandbehave · 07/07/2024 08:50

We used this method nearly 15 years ago....until my son was born!
Seriously it is not the best form of contraception. We were originally trying for a baby then our finances changed for the worst alongside some other personal stuff so we put it on hold. Didn't want to go back on hormonal contraception and hated condoms. My cycle was like clockwork. I knew when I was ovulating etc etc. I tracked it all on a calendar even the dates we had sex. Which at the tike was not very often as we had alot on our minds. That particular month we did it once and it wasn't supposed to be at a fertile time. Hubby didn't even ejaculate in me. 8 weeks later after missing 2 periods I was pregnant!

Pearpipper · 07/07/2024 17:21

We tried it for a few months and both lost confidence when we heard of others getting pregnant. Fortunately no unplanned pregnancy. We use condoms now - DH not super keen on them and much of the time when we have "sex" we perform mutual masturbation. We both climax, zero chance of pregnancy and no chance of "darling, I don't like these rubbers, they stop me from cumming" being whispered in my ears. We do get through a lot of tissues though! Intercourse with a condom is mainly at my request for my pleasure and I find them smoother and more comfortable than unprotected intercourse. Ironically, I can cum much better with a well lubricated condom and they stop me from getting BV - so another plus for me.

This!

Why would anyone want this lifestyle? Either you are trying to conceive or you are not. There is no need to introduce a gambling factor.

SportGirl · 08/07/2024 19:36

You may as well buy a pram using this method

Always use withdrawal with my H but usually condoms with other guys. I prefer guys to ejaculate externally though, just for the spectacle of it.

Disturbia81 · 13/07/2024 23:45

Got pregnant twice doing this, both on pre cum as he always pulled out before the orgasm!

Agiftandacurse · 14/07/2024 07:01

I think some guys have some sperm in their precum (so it wouldn't work).

I have used this method for years along with tracking my fertility (successfully)

EnergeticTigerDad · 18/07/2024 08:10

When done correctly the risk of pregnancy is very low (not zero, but low). We used this method for years without issue. But I also have pretty good control and sense of when to pull out.

Nameychango · 19/07/2024 00:30

I got pregnant with my third thanks to this!!! Thought I was extra safe as it was at a very unfertile time of cycle too! I was stunned when pregnant- it's a very unreliable method!
