Question about STI tests

stihelp · 27/04/2024 09:22

I am extremely embarrassed to ask this, hence changing my name.
Where would I go for an STI test?
Not had sex for 4 years but now in a new relationship and would like to get tested before doing the deed.
Was in a long term relationship before that so have never had one
Who would I contact to have one done please it are there just kits you can buy to do at home?

You can probably get swabs for chlamydia and gonorrhoea done in your doctors surgery if you make an appointment with the nurse but your local GUM clinic would be best for a full screen.

Id type 'free sti test' then the town that you live in into Google. Information should pop up
The kit contains a test for HIV, Syphilis, gonorrhea and chlamydia.

SH:24 does free postal kits- there's instructions in the pack and they text you the results. They definitely test for Chlamydia and gonorrhoea but I'm not sure about others.

Agree with @Cakencookieobsessed your local Sexual Health clinic/GUM clinic can do a full screen if you'd rather.

P.s. don't be embarrassed OP, all part of being a responsible adult!

Fiery30 · 27/04/2024 21:23

Nothing to be embarrassed about it. Perfectly responsible decision. You can go to your local sexual health clinic and get tested there. It is not linked to your GP or other health records. You can also order self-test kits.

stihelp · 27/04/2024 22:20

I am not embarrassed about wanting the test just that I don't know where to get one!!
Thank you I have ordered a home kit.

Home test kits are so easy to use but i used to find it hard to draw enough blood to fill the tube. Always used up all the sharps and bruised my fingers terribly in the process.

Have since realised that it helps to have a hot shower first, and stand up with your hand below chest level while you squeeze the blood from your finger. If the blood stops flowing, I do some star jumps! HTH.
